Hello, I have a question about crafting and combination several magic items as a single magic item.
Magical crafting : only formulas for four common magic items of 2nd level or lower.
Impeccable crafter : Whenever you roll a success at a Crafting check to make an item of the type you chose with Specialty Crafting, you get a critical success instead.
Critical Success : Each additional day spent Crafting reduces the materials needed to complete the item by an amount based on your level + 1 and your proficiency rank in Crafting.
proficiency rank : is it trained, expert, master, legendary ? +1, +2, +3,+ 4 ?
Inventor : it is only a common formula that you don’t know.
How do a character craft uncommun, rare magic item or obtain uncommon, rare formula ?
reverse engineering (with scrounger dedication, and expert disassembler) to obtain an uncommon or rare formula ? But the character must obtain the magic item.
For example, Martyr's shield can be upgraded to a stronger form of sturdy shield by paying the difference in cost between its current type of sturdy shield and the new type.
Is it possible to create a combination from several specific shields in a single shield ?
For example, if a character want to create a mantimera/gorgimera (crossbreeding a manticore/gorgone and a chimera) shield ?
Sturdy shield (supreme) (common) [40,000 gp]: The shield has Hardness 20, HP 160, and BT 80.
Lion's Shield (common) [245 gp]: This steel shield (Hardness 6, HP 36, BT 18) is forged into the shape of a roaring lion’s head. The lion’s head functions as +1 striking shield boss that can’t be removed from the shield.
Activate Single Action Raise a Shield; Frequency once per day; Effect You animate the lion’s head. You Raise the Shield and make a melee Strike with it as part of the same action. The shield’s biting maw is a martial melee weapon that deals 2d6 piercing damage and has the deadly 1d6 trait; it can’t be enhanced by runes. The shield remains animated for 1 minute, during which time you can Strike with it each time you Raise the Shield, as well as with a Strike action.
Spined Shield (common) [360 gp] : Five jagged spines project from the surface of this steel shield (Hardness 6, HP 24, BT 12). The spines are +1 striking shield spikes. When you use the Shield Block reaction with this shield, the spines take the damage before the shield itself does. When the shield would take damage (after applying Hardness), one spine snaps off per 6 damage, reducing the damage by 6. The shield takes any remaining damage. When there are no spines left, the shield takes damage as normal.
When all the spines are gone, you lose the ability to attack with them until the spines regenerate the next day.
Activate Single Action Interact; Effect You shoot one of the shield’s spines at a target. A fired spine uses the spikes’ statistics, but it is a martial ranged weapon with a range increment of 120 feet.
Jawbreaker Shield (uncommon) [1,650 gp] : This heavy bone shield is composed of a massive plate of dinosaur bone with jagged, tooth-like ridges ringing its edge. It has Hardness 12, HP 48, and BT 24. The ridges are unremovable +1 striking shield spikes that deal slashing damage instead of piercing damage. While holding the jawbreaker shield, you gain a +3 item bonus to your Reflex DC to resist Swallow Whole attacks.
Activate Reaction Interact; Trigger A creature attacks you with a jaws or fangs Strike or similar Strike using its mouth; Effect You make a shield bash Strike as a reaction against the attacker. If the shield bash hits, the target takes damage and must attempt a DC 31 Fortitude saving throw. The effects of the saving throw are determined after the effects of the triggering Strike are resolved.
Success The target is unaffected.
Failure You wound the target’s mouth. It takes 1d6 persistent bleed damage and takes a –2 status penalty to attack and damage rolls with jaws, fangs, or similar Strikes for 24 hours.
Critical Failure You break the target’s jaw. As failure, and the creature can't make Strikes using its mouth for 1 minute. At the end of its turn, it can attempt a Fortitude save to regain the ability to make Strikes using its mouth.
Medusa'Scream (greater) (common) [ 9,000 gp] : The ghastly visage of a slain medusa's head stares out from this steel shield (Hardness 13, HP 52, BT 26). The shield comes with a thick leather cover to conceal the head.
Activate Two Actions Interact (visual); Frequency once per day; Effect You reveal the medusa's face, focusing its gaze on one creature within 30 feet. The shield casts flesh to stone with a range of 30 feet.
Craft Requirements The initial raw materials must include the head of a medusa.
A greater medusa's scream (Hardness 15, HP 60, BT 30) has a frequency of once per hour for its activation instead of once per day, and the DC is 35.
Reforging Shield (rare) [6,000 gp] :This steel shield contains a smoldering core of magma that never cools. Whenever the reforging shield’s current Hit Points are below its Break Threshold, the shield recovers 5 Hit Points at the start of its wielder’s turn each round until it is no longer broken. Each time a character Repairs the shield, the shield recovers double the number of Hit Points. The shield has Hardness 15, HP 120, and BT 60.
Shield of the Unified Legion (rare) [70,000 gp] : This high-grade orichalcum shield (Hardness 16, HP 64, and BT 32) bears a +3 major striking shield boss that cannot be removed. It gleams brightly in any light, drawing attention at all times. When you Raise this Shield, ephemeral reflections of it appear in front of each of your allies within 30 feet, granting them its +2 circumstance bonus to AC for as long as they are within 30 feet of you and your shield is raised.
Activate Two Actions Interact (force); Frequency once per minute; Effect You heft the shield and thrust it forward, causing ephemeral reflections of the shield to surround you and then rush outward in a 90-foot line or 60-foot cone (your choice). Make a shield bash Strike against each enemy within the area, except that the damage dealt is force damage. Each target you hit is moved 10 feet away from you (each target you critically hit is also knocked prone). This is forced movement. These shield bashes count against your multiple attack penalty, but the penalty doesn't increase until after you have made all these attacks.
Is it possible to upgrade shield boss and shield spikes with magic properties ?
Thanks for your future answer.

Each additional day spent Crafting reduces the materials needed to complete the item by an amount based on your level + 1 and your proficiency rank in Crafting.
"And" your proficiecy rank in crafting.
Look at the "earn income" table. You'll see that depends your rank and your task DC you'll get different income.
For example, a lvl 7 character crafting as a lvl 7 task ( master proficiency ) is going to get 2.5 golds per day ( discount on the items he's craftin ).
On a critical success, the earn income would move to a lvl 8 task, rewarding him with 3 golds per day rather than 2.5.

reverse engineering (with scrounger dedication, and expert disassembler) to obtain an uncommon or rare formula ? But the character must obtain the magic item.
It's up to the DM.
They may be found during an adventure or bought from a shop. They may be found through Bargain hunter or, eventually, using a lore to find out who has specific stuff ( I'd consider it difficult ).
Rare stuff tends mostly to be close to unique, so it's up to the DM ( while uncommon is something which may be found in a specific region or simply not common but not impossible to get ).
Is it possible to create a combination from several specific shields in a single shield ?
No, you can't.
You have to choose the kind of shield that suits your character the most, keeping in mind that some could become worse the more the character proceeds during his adventure.
The martyr shield is a Sentient, unique item, which is also a sturdy shield, and because so ( since it's written in its description ) it can be upgraded as it were a sturdy shield.
Is it possible to upgrade shield boss and shield spikes with magic properties ?
Shield boss ans Shield Spikes can be hetched as any other weapon, so you can put elemental runes and other stuff ( obviously, you won't be able to put a returning rune. Or a keen rune on a shield boss ).

By RAM you cannot merge or combine specific items, that's why they are specific. Só in a restricted gameplay like PFS you never make such things.
But in home games the things may be different. The GMG has rules to GM create your own itens. This could be easily adjusted to define the price and rarity of a new item you want to craft/merge as well the DCs. Notice that in practice this will create a new specific item so not only the price will increase but the level will be increased too. So if you try to merge a Supreme Sturdy Shield with a Lion shield for example this probably will increase the requirement level over 20 overpassing the crafter abilities.

It is intended that if something is marked as uncommon that there is no way for a player to get it other than having the GM allow it. That is why Inventor only allows creating recipes for common items and reverse engineering requires already having the item. No loopholes. You have to have permission from the GM.
If the GM wants to allow the item, the GM can lower the rarity level of that item and allow inventor to create it. Or allow the item recipe to be found somewhere. Or allow the item itself to be available.

Yeah, it's up to the GM to distribute uncommon stuff as they see fit. They might let you find a shop or crafter who has a few uncommon formulas, and you have to convince them to sell you the formula, or you might find the formulas as treasure in a dungeon or as rewards for completing quests.
As a GM, I try to make sure that I include formulas, texts containing spells and feats, and so on in treasure, and I offer those things as potential quest rewards when the quests are being offered by NPCs that might know those kind of things.
Though not all GMs will think of doing that - talk to your GM and say you would like formulas included in treasure and rewards.

Soulforger is probably your best bet. Though it may only allow one shield. The Soul Arsenal feat at level 6 lets you get additional equipment, but it says that it has to be of a different type than what you already have.
Maybe Call Bonded Item for a Wizard or Wizard multiclass, but that is a lot of character investment. And it definitely only works for one item.
Possibly the Instant Armor spell, but that requires Armor. Not sure if a GM will allow a shield to qualify. But I don't see any restriction on the number of times that you cast the spell in one day. So you could put several instances of armor into an extradimensional space.
There may be some equipment upgrade like a rune that allows this, but I am not aware of one.

For example, shadow gift :
encompassing darkness
The shadows at your feet can hold objects. You can Interact with your shadow to store or remove objects, just like you would a mundane container. Your shadow can contain 3 Bulk of objects, which don’t count toward the Bulk you are carrying. At 6th level, and every 4 levels thereafter, you can store 1 additional Bulk of objects in your shadow.
Is it possible to store several shields and to change shield in a combat ? Is it 2 actions ?
Are there a feat to reduce the number of actions ?

Yes, you can store shields up to the bulk limit of the shadows. It would either be 2 actions or 3, depending on whether you strap your shields, and another Raise Shield action to get the benefits (potentially unstrap and drop 1 action otherwise Free action drop, retrieve from shadows 1 action, equip the shield 1 action, Raise Shield to get the defensive buff 1 action)
Are there a feat to reduce the number of actions ?
Viking archetype has a Second Shield at level 6 that would let you drop and equip a new shield as an action, but the provisio is that it's stored on your person.
Arguably Encompassing Darkness is not on your person, so your GM may decide you can't draw from the shadow as part of this feat action, but that doesn't stop you drawing a spare before combat begins and just have it on you for when your first shield breaks.
