Is Manual Dexterity + Independent a thing now?

Rules Discussion

Now that Valet + Independent on familiars was confirmed to not work due to Valet requiring a command, Manual dexterity + Independent still works, right?

Interact is a manipulate action so with 2 turns you can still grab an item for free. 1 turn for getting the object, second turn for handling it. The item would be stored an you would be a willing ally to your familiar, so there should be no problem.

It is way worse that what many of us assumed valet + independent did but it is still a decent usage of a familiar I think.

Eventually, you can let your familiar hold an elixir of life to begin with. This way you'll be saving the "retrive an item" part on the first round, making him more reactive/efficient if needed.

Is this in an errata somewhere?

Not that I necessarily disagree, but I am curious if it is an official ruling, or just that roquepo was convinced of that ruling by a debate somewhere.

response on this from Paizo

No feeding, no usinng different actions with a "free action" like indipendent, no crossbow reload ( unless the crossbow is in the hand of a familiar, which has manual dexterity and indipendent ).

The crossbow restriction was that the familiar would need to wield the weapon to be able to reload it. As familiars can't wield weapons, they can't reload them.

Wield a weapon means you are ready to use it.

A familiar can hold the weapon and reload it, but that's it. A familiar is not able to wield weapons, and because so use them to attack.

Reloading is different ( Mark also mention using multiple crossbow in the video, to let the familiar recharge work ).

But it's also in the reload description

Quote:
Reloading a ranged weapon and drawing a thrown weapon both require a free hand. Switching your grip to free a hand and then to place your hands in the grip necessary to wield the weapon are both included in the actions you spend to reload a weapon.

The reload action gives you for free the "put your grip back to the weapon to wield it", but it's clear enough that reloading doesn't require you to wield a weapon. Just hold it and use an interact action ( the familiar has ).

Valet + Independent died because of explicit mention of the Command action in Valet. Apparently your Valet can't anticipate your actions they must be told.

The other combinations work fine.
