Swallow Whole and Dead Swallower

Rules Questions

So pretty simple scenario, came up last night. The Druid got swallowed by the T-Rex...and then the T-Rex got killed.

What happens to the Druid in its gullet? Does she take take damage each round she remains swallowed? Can other players outside of the dead dino cut her out? How long does that take?

Or is it typically played as, "Once swallower is dead, any swallowed targets just get a free escape"?

Free escape? Lol. Never.

AC and HP to escape are probably the same. I would have it be the same for your friends cutting you out. Standard action, either way.

Any elemental damage associated with being swallowed will still happen.

Sometimes they have bludgeoning damage, but I imagine that is caused by muscles... so it would probably stop.

Yeah, DR and HP would still apply, AC would be essentially 0 (from inside or outside). Maybe an acrobatics check to avoid elemental damage, with the creature dead the acid isn't sloshing around anymore so it could be avoidable.

I imagine there is no actual raw answer, unless it's in a faq somewhere...this has happened before, I'm sure.

Do you give Sneak Attack to a swallowed Rogue?

I did when it happened in my Kingmaker campaign. Didn't know if "no modifiers from Dex" was the same as "denied its Dex"... so I figured it would probably be more awesome to allow it.

And it was... Rogue asked if he could stay inside and go to town... he just took the ~30 bludgeoning damage per round until the top half of the Jotund Troll fell off the bottom half of the Jotund Troll. Lol.

My venerable Aasimar character from Tyrant's Grasp get a mite tired of getting bit by every head of the Giant Flytrap that was trying to swallow him and just let the damn thing swallow him. He ripped it apart from the inside the next round.

That's just great lol!

If a creature with this special attack begins its turn with an opponent grappled in its mouth (see Grab), it can attempt a new combat maneuver check (as though attempting to pin the opponent). If it succeeds, it swallows its prey, and the opponent takes bite damage. Unless otherwise noted, the opponent can be up to one size category Smaller than the swallowing creature. Being swallowed causes a creature to take damage each round. The amount and type of damage varies and is given in the creature’s statistics. A swallowed creature keeps the grappled condition, while the creature that did the swallowing does not. A swallowed creature can try to cut its way free with any light slashing or piercing weapon (the amount of cutting damage required to get free is equal to 1/10 the creature’s total hit points), or it can just try to escape the grapple. The Armor Class of the interior of a creature that swallows whole is normally 10 + 1/2 its natural armor bonus, with no modifiers for size or Dexterity. If a swallowed creature cuts its way out, the swallowing creature cannot use swallow whole again until the damage is healed. If the swallowed creature escapes the grapple, success puts it back in the attacker’s mouth, where it may be bitten or swallowed again.

Others have pointed good way to handle it. I'm honestly not sure about RAW, but i feel like someone could attempt a CMB check to escape the grapple, thus climbing out of the stomach to the mouth and then attempting another CMB check to leave the mouth. If the creature is dead it probably have no CMB, so it would be an automatic success.

As for damage, i'd probably go with elemantal damage as well.
