Reach Spell metamagic

Rules Discussion

If you used the Reach Spell metamagic as your last action on a turn, then did nothing until your next turn(no reactions, no free actions), then cast a spell, would that spell be affected by Reach Spell?

No.

Apologies for not citing, but the rules are clear about this...somewhere.

Actually, this is a point of contention that comes up on the forums every so often: While I agree that you have to use your 'next action' abilities in the same round, I don't believe anyone has found this clearly spelled out anywhere in the rules.

I don't think it's absolutely certain but I'm (currently) of the opinion that it is intended to be the same turn, immediately before the spell you want to apply it to. I don't think the other interpretation would break the game though.

I'm overall not a big fan of metamagic. I'd personally rather use Spectral Hand rather than spend a feat on Reach Spell. I think Widen Spell is even less worthy of spending a class feat on.

What does your GM say? That's the only opinion that really matters.

Some folks argue that the spell + metamagic must be in the same round.
Others hold that it can bridge two rounds if no other actions or reactions separate them.

The RAW are unclear.

Personally, I prefer the first solution, but if I were the DM and a player insisted on bridging two rounds, I don't think I'd say "no". If at all possible, I try to validate player ideas, even if they are on the fringe of RAW.
