Eldritch Archer Questions

So, one of my players for an upcoming campaign has started asking questions about this actually really flipping cool archetype. Basic-est question first...

When using Eldritch Shot, does the range of the Spell matter? Or just the requirement in Eldritch Shot that it require a Spell-Attack roll? Is it conferring the entire resolution of the spell onto the results of your attack roll?

I shure hope its weapon range, cus if not then the 30ft range would make almost any bow but the shortbow useless

Full bow range, with all the bow's bonuses and penalties.

Just be aware, there are not a huge number of spells with attack rolls beyond cantrips.

And it is 3 actions.

Great Question: I'm not sure, but to make Eldritch Archer playable, I would link it to the Bow Strike range.

RAI: I assume the Eldritch Archer picks a spell (with only two restrictions, 1. Requires Spell Attack and 2. Requires 1 or 2 actions) and then makes a "normal" bow strike. While it says "Cast a Spell", I assume mechanically, the other spell requirements are ignored.

RAW: I'm not sure how the archer casts anything. Beyond the targeting/range requirements of the spell, I don't see anything in the Eldritch Archer dedication that the bow replaces V, S, M, or F components. However, I would have expected to see text that the Bow could be used to replace the S, M, F components similar to the sidebar on page 303 of Core. For the range/targeting requirements, I'm not sure how to use the "Cast a Spell" action and bypass the targeting rules on page 304 of Core. For targeting, it says "The target must be within the spell's range...".

Can Eldritch Archers use Learn A Spell activity to learn more spells?

The requirements of the Learn a spell activity are : You have a spellcasting class feature, and the spell you want to learn is on your magical tradition’s spell list.

The Eldritch archer dedication has the feat "Basic Eldritch Archer Spellcasting". In fact it is quite similar to Multiclassing dedications for the casting classes.

So, I would say that yes, they can use it to learn more spells. Now, Learn a spell specifies when spontaneous casters can use it for including a new spell in their repertoire : " if you have a spell repertoire, you can select it when you add or swap spells."
