Smuggler's Wayfinder Price 2,000 gp; Weight 1 lb.
This time-weathered wayfinder lacks any notable features. Despite its routine appearance, a smuggler’s wayfinder has an additional ability generally known only to the person using it. When a command word is spoken, the compass’s interior is replaced with a small extradimensional space that can hold up to 10 pounds of material occupying no more than 1 cubic foot of space. This material must be able to fit through the 3-inch-diameter opening in the compass’s face (such as a thin glass vial, coins, small jewelry, or a rolled-up piece of paper). While the extradimensional space is accessible, all other properties of the wayfinder cease to function, including any resonant ioun stone powers. While the extradimensional space is hidden, the smuggler’s wayfinder emits an aura of faint evocation, as a standard wayfinder.

What fun things could be in a smugglers wayfinder?

A Demilich.

2. The important part of a heavy wrist launcher, loaded and set to fire at anyone opening the wayfinder. Also, poisoned.

3. Lots of loose change. 250 coins, mostly copper and silver.

4. A narrow bottle of your favourite beverage.

5. A stuffed and animated kitten.

6. Scented candles and a half-written note to the owners' lover.

7. A kobold-month of rations.

8. Masterwork lockpicks, a couple of vials of acid, a tunnel creeper and a wire saw.

9. Lots of seeds and a packet of instant fertilizer. Could be valuable, could be weed seeds for playing a prank. They aren't labelled.

10. A note with the command word for the wayfinders hidden compartment
11. A ring with an "Arcane Mark" cast with Umbral Metamagic (aka permanet darkness)
12. It is not a wayfinder but a baby Mimic. It will slowly grow in size as it feeds on what it can swallow without notice. It will only attack the PC if it is grown enough to think of him/her as a meal.

That's funny because the pcs found the wayfinder after it's owner had been eaten by a mimic.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. The previous owner was smuggling something when he killed in an inn and was eaten by a mimic. The group the smuggler was working for has sent an agent to track down the smuggler and retrieve the wayfinder. Soon the pcs will find there is a thief out to steal the wayfinder from them. What is being smuggled?

Well then I would suggest:
13. A notebook with a list of cityguards, nobles, city officials on the payroll of the smuggler and some dirty secrets on each of them to keep them in line.

14. A bunch of very dangerous exotic animals via the Carry Companion spell. These animals were originally charmed so that they would accept the carry companion spell but that was weeks ago and so the charm has long since worn off....

15. Two sets of plans for a large building. There is a small but significant difference between them.

16. Black onyx, enough to animate a pack of T-rexes (or a forum thread from 2007).

17. Personal items and hair samples, suitable for scrying, from several people in the military.

18. Scrolls of a few [Evil] spells.

19. A corpse with shrink item cast upon it.

Those are some good ideas.

4000 cubic feet of water via Shrink Item.

Me! You found me! Now it's your turn to hide!

20. Scroll of something deeply treasonous, like an agreement to set fire to the royal dockyard in reward for $$$, or a plot to kidnap the princess.

21. Drugs (pesh, midnight milk, etc)

22. Necromantic disease-carrying vermin.

23. Incriminating accounts and contracts linking the Baron to a crime syndicate.

24. Love letters between married rich merchant and his mistress. Or between people from warring houses (cf Romeo & Juliet).

25.:
Explosive Runes

Several severed fingers still wearing signet rings.
Several pages detailing daily routines at the (local bank of Abadar, royal palace, popular casino, suspected mob front or Pathfinder lodge)
Family tree and genealogy research into a local noble family.
A lich's phylactery.

26. 20 bags. Each one contains a scrap of paper with a name on it, and a (soul) gem.

27. 40 unmarked, lead-coated vials.

28. 500gp and a map that shows a town you don't recognize with a X located slightly outside of town.

29. Thousands of teeth.

30. A bouquet of Sun Orchids lightly coated in oil of timelessness.
