armored skirt

Rules Discussion

I just wanted to be sure that I understand the modifications of the armored skirt correctly.
are these the right stats for the armors modified by the armored skirt?

medium
chain shirt AC +3 DEX cap 2 armor check -2 STR 14

heavy:
scale mail AC +4 DEX cap 1 armor check -3 Str 16
chain mail AC +5 DEX cap 0 armor check -3 STR 18
breastplate AC +5 DEX cap 0 armor check -3 STR 18
Halfplate AC +4 DEX cap 2 armor check -2 STR 14
Full plate AC +5 DEX cap 1 armor check -2 STR 16

Looks right to me, plus it'd add Noisy to those that don't already have it.

I take it this was added in a new supplement?

Looking over the stats posted by the OP, what we seem to end up with is:
1) Chain Shirt + Kilt = Hide Armor / Scale Mail without the speed penalty?

2) Scale Mail + Kilt = Noisy Chain Mail / Breastplate but as Heavy Armor?
3) Breastplate + Kilt = Noisy Splint Mail / Half Plate with a worse Dex Cap but better speed penalty?
4) Half Plate + Kilt = Noisy Chain Mail / Breastplate with better Dex Cap and Strength Requirement but as Heavy Armor with a worse Speed Penalty?
5) Full Plate + Kilt = Noisy Splint Mail / Half Plate with better Check Penalty

Assuming the Kilt adjusts bulk proportionately (+1 to Light/Medium armor and -1 to Heavy), '4) Half Plate + Kilt' combo is a little troublesome mathematically as its '+4 Armor / +2' Dex is as good as any of the 'stand alone' Heavy Armors if you have a 14+ Dexterity but with a better Check Penalty, Strength requirement, and (possibly) Bulk (though it is Noisy and lacks the Bulwark trait of Full Plate).
The other combos seem to be a fairly balanced trade off versus the equivilents:
1) If you have a 14+ Strength, this seems like a bad deal unless you really want the Chain Armor Specialization effect.
2) Good trade off when Armor Specialization comes into play?
3) Seems strictly worse then all the Heavy Armor options unless you really, really, really want the effective +5 feet of movement.
5) If you have a 12 Dexterity, this seems like a good tradeoff since you presumably keep the Bulwark trait

Wow, I somehow read 'Armored Skirt' as 'Armored Kilt' every time I looked at this thread: I guess I still have PF1 on my mind.

Okay, so adding a skirt to Half Plate or Full Plate is a lot bulkier than their AC equivalents, making the reduced Strength requirements a bit less useful (4 Bulk Armor with a 14 Strength doesn't leave you a lot of 'wiggle room').

Radiant Oath

2 people marked this as a favorite.

That was in fact part of the inspiration, for the record; it was one of my favorite PF1 items, and I wanted to bring it forward. So, it's understandable!

As for the other part... it also happens to enable my character design process very effectively. ^_^
