Why don't Coil rifles have the unwieldy property?

Rules Questions

Coil rifles are the only sniper rifles that don't have the unwieldy property. I was wondering if it had ever been explained why that is.

Because they do less damage, or have less range, or both, than other sniper rifles at or near equivalent item levels.

That's how weapons get balanced in Starfinder.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

They wanted to have one option that allows full attacks, so they nerfed a regular projectile sniper and removed unwieldy.

Sniper rifles are already generally pretty bad because of the unwieldy quality, so they made one good option that can be used for greater range while still being useful in a close quarters fire fight.

Exactly my operator just caries it as longer ranged weapon and is unlikely to be used to snipe that often.

I have added a bipod as well

Operative for me. I added a bipod and scope w/ laser and silencer/flashhider combo etc. It's a fun little piece of kit for sure.

Basically as others have said it is the operator option to give them a longer range long gun type option that can still do more extended range engagements but don't need the extreme range of pure sniper guns.
