Damage when dying

Probably a simple question: My character recently got hit and was dying with -7 HP. Somebody stabilized him, and so he was lying there in the middle of the battlefield without anyone being able to heal him.

Then, a magic fireball hit and added another 33 damage to the square my character was in. Can dying characters take more damage? Should this character actually die?

Yes.

Technically, the character should die. Your DM could make an easy excuse for why a character survived this though, like your prone body was covered by debris and you counted as having full cover.

Your character is toast, likely literally. Why would dying characters be immune to extra damage?

As a general rule, if you're unconscious *before* the damaging spell gets used, you might as well start rolling up your new character.

Advice -
ummm... I think you should read Items that can save you thread as the first question is, "why can't you save/help yourself?". Usually it's lack of resources (didn't have or buy it).
