Elemental Slaying

Advice

I'm about to start in a level 15 mini campaign where the elemental planes have crashed into the world, the elementals have gone mad and have pretty much killed everyone. We're supposed to be playing as a group of heroes/survivors that are trying to turn the tide against the elementals.

I'm going to be playing a fighter (no multi classing/dipping). Yes a fighter, not a ranger, even though favored enemy: elementals would probably be useful in this campaign. I was thinking about playing a critical focused build until I realized elementals are immune to that.

Are there any feats, items or class options I should consider that are good at countering/dealing with elementals?

Advanced weapon training options like warrior spirit (to get a useful bane on your weapon) and fighter's reflexes (because elementals and elemental-themed creatures have a lot of reflex save effects) are worth considering. Combat maneuvers, feints and intimidation on the other hand are probably a waste of time, don't spend any resources on any of them.

You will probably have to go underwater at some point so have a plan for that, ditto for flight.

The base, unarchetyped fighter is pretty decent for a hack 'n' slash game these days.

You can still play a critical focused build if you want to, you'll just have to build around one of the critical magic weapon effects.

Some weapon qualities and some specific weapons have an extra effect on a critical hit. This special effect also functions against creatures not normally subject to critical hits. On a successful critical roll, apply the special effect, but do not multiply the weapon’s regular damage.

this feat gives you a 25% chance to critically hit anyone normally immune. That feat is particularly nice for swashbucklers as it lets them confirm criticals regardless if the extra damage ends up being negated; they still regain panache that way.

That being said you’re honestly better off not going a crit fisher at all if you know you’re fighting mostly elementals. I’d focus on just getting as much static bonus damage as possible. There are other enemies within the elemental planes that can be critically hit, though, so even if you do go that route you should get some use of it.
