Bane Baldric for Feat Qualification

Rules Questions

Hi guys,

I know that things like stat-boosting items let you qualify for feats provided you wear them for at least 24 hours, but does this apply to other items?

Specifically, does the bane baldric let you qualify for extended bane feat if worn for 24 hours?

No.

If it doesn't state that it does, then it doesn't

it's a good thing to include a link to the item in question

bane baldric

it affects the bane quality of a (lgt or 1hnd) weapon via the inquisitor class ability (as a regulating mechanic) which will accumulate/stack with any inquisitor levels. That's it.
It's affecting the weapon, not the wearer per se. So no, the wearer is not going to qualify for any feats using this item.

Now, if the wearer is an inquisitor, it says, "If the wearer is an inquisitor, she is treated as five levels higher when using her bane and greater bane abilities."
So if there was something that combined based on that usage, the inquisitor would have a window to it while using their bane ability. That temporary access (it say's "when using") is not going to qualify for a permanent gain to qualify for a feat.

That means there are two ways of looking at this that yield a "no"

A similar item with more details (and generous wording, it's a legacy item) is the monk's robe as it affects 3 things and has a higher price.

If it was an ioun stone that gave you a feat or something similar the wearer could use it to meet the requirements of other feats. Still, it puts the wearer in a precarious position of relying on a single item for a feat chain that may be critical to their martial success. That is not a good position to be in.
The core competency of the character should be immune to the vagaries of pseudo-vigilante in-game life such as thievery, banditry, incarceration, not having your magical stuff (a stick can be a weapon, albeit not a good one but may let you perform feats and class abilities)...

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The feat extended bane only states that you have to possess the bane class feature. The item in question specifically grants you that class feature. It then goes on to state that this class feature can only be used with the attuned weapon (not that the weapon gains the class feature).

So, as far as I can tell it will work. in the same way that a animal shaman druid can take wildshape feats or how a knife master rogue can still take the accomplished sneak attacker feat. They still have the class ability that's required even if it's limited or altered in some way.

As has been pointed out, if you were to ever lose the magic item then the feat would be unusable until you were able to once again meet the prerequisite.

I'm not sure honestly.

I don't think it's as clear cut as LordKailas or Azothath or Red Metal seem to.

But I can tell you that as a GM I would probably tell you no.

The wording of how the Bane Baldric works just isn't clear to me on whether it actually grants you the Bane class feature. Your best bet is to ask your GM what they think, and if you are the GM go with your gut.

It's why I posted the link to the monk's robe as a similar item.
"If the character is not a monk, she gains the AC and unarmed damage of a 5th-level monk."
notice that even though it is all the time, Unarmed Strike isn't granted.

Sadly feats are generally VERY expensive($3000 for 3/d, $10000, and more) in the game.

I'd agree that it's going to take some thought on the part of your GM and a home game GM is going to be more forgiving than RAW as the game has to be interpreted to function.
