Trying to make Minotaur Barbarian

Advice

I am running a new campaign with my group and cleared it with the GM for me to be a Minotaur barbarian. I have the stats and abilities picked out and am going to be using a greataxe. My question is should a barbarian like this, who is meant only to run into the middle of groups and start fighting, wear light armor or medium armor? My GM told me that Minotaurs usually only wear either hide or leather armor in which case I can't decide what armor I should have and would like some help. We are starting at level 5 and have 10,500 gold to spend on equipment

I'd suggest some Rhino Hide

Mithral breastplate...

What sort of GM allows a CR 4 monster as a player race?

It's a playable race. 11RP.

Personally, I would assume that the Minotaur would prefer an armor made out of some natural material (hence the suggestion for hide or leather). Others might be able to tell you about Darkwood(?) armor. And this is presuming the Minotaur is intelligent enough to choose manufactured armor as opposed to some form of natural armor bonus.

If it is a character that is purposefully going out to adventure, it probably has the best armor it can afford... regardless of the material.

Why nerf the character with inferior armor just because the other minotaurs wear leather or hide?

Ah, I see: searching d20pfsrd instead of Archives of Nethys brings up a 3rd Party race by Kobold Press. There is a 3rd Party Advice section on the forums, so I assumed the OP meant official material.

I would allow someone to build a minotaur character using the CR4 monster as their base in any campaign starting past level 5.

It's stats aren't anything to worry about. The feats it starts with are generic enough to not worry about.

Obviously they don't get to add the usual stat adjustments for modifying monsters with class levels, though.

But overall, it's not really anything special.

Hmmm. Not sure if I am offended by this or not. All I can think to say is that not every person on the planet is a power gamer.

Otherwise, as a monster class, a Minotaur Barbarian may choose a natural armor material and spend the gold cost of Mithral for some better weapon.

Just my opinion.

Did you just minotaur-shame?

Not every adventurer wants to die if they could have better gear either. If the Minotaur made it to level five through adventuring, they can know metal beats hide.

Common sense isn't power gaming.
