Standard actions

Rules Questions

So I can't believe I have to ask this because it seems ridiculous, but I'm Dming for the first time and one of my players is convinced that you gain more standard actions as you gain more BaB's, and I'm starting to doubt myself, but it doesn't say anywhere that it's true. My question is if that is true or not? I know in the rules it says everything you can do in a round, but he is very confident he is right.

Lol, it's false.

At most, you get extra iterative attacks when your BAB becomes +6/+11/+16, that is extra attacks as part of your full-attack routine, each made at progressively lower attack bonus.

But definitely not a whole extra standard action. That just makes no sense.

Here's what you get:
1) a standard and a move action (the standard is usually a single attack)
or
2) a full attack action (with iteratives if your BAB is 6 or higher) but no move beyond a 5-foot step

There are a few tricky ways to get to move and still do a full attack (like a barbarian who is charging and then uses Pounce to get a full attack, but they are few and far between, and require a generous helping of cheese.

There are also some mythic path powers that give you an extra attack action or move action, but it still isn't an extra standard action. AFAIK, there is no way to get extra standard actions. Even with Haste, all it does is improve your full attack action (aside from a few bonuses).

A high level Medium channeling a Marshal spirit can donate his standard action to an ally, that's the only method I can think of.

Lmao I wouldn't even entertain that discussion. "No, you're f$#&ing wrong, end of story. Now are we ordering pizza or chinese this week?"

I have a memory of a monk archetype or something who gets more standard actions being discussed on there. I haven't played/seen it myself though, so it might be 3rd party or mythic or both (or made-up)?

But in general, no you only ever get 1 standard action per round.

EDIT: Here we go - MONK OF THE FOUR WINDS, at 12th level you can take 3 standard actions in a round with very specific actions allowed. If the player is using this archetype then they're right. If the player isn't using this archetype then showing them this might help them understand that normally you can't do it.

Monk of the 4 winds gets 3 standards at level 12 if they also take the sensei archetype they can then also give 3 standard actions to all allies.

They still wouldn't be right, as that has nothing to do with "as you gain more BaB's".

True.

Well actually that is true in a round about way, getting more bab means you have more levels getting more levels brings you closer to the 12th level ability that grants more standard actions but that is the only instance of more bab(higher level) giving more standard actions.

Yes but the BAB isn't what gives you the extra standard actions. This is like saying that when a Sorcerer gets +4 BAB they get 4th level spells, so BAB gives you spells.

There is no bijective correlation between class levels and BAB. In fact, you can get higher BAB without getting a higher class level, i.e. multiclassing.

TIL the word "bijective," thanks!
