Oracle Hellbound Curse Question

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

In the Hellbound curse the oracle is denied the use of spells that are both good and chaotic but has no restrictions on the alignment of the oracle themselves. Does anyone have a problem with the player choosing to play such an oracle and being Chaotic? With that being said, as unlikely as it may be, what would prevent a player who is Chaotic Good from playing a character who has the hellbound curse as an Oracle? I can thing of a few instances in which a good player might become hellbound but then wouldn't be good. Any and all opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Well breaking that curse could lead to excellent adventure ideas and RP segments(Granted the mechanical fallout of lifting an Oracle curse is beyond me)

But by RAW, nothing stops a CG character from playing Hellbound Oracle. heck, nothing by RAW stops LG from playing it either.

While it's called Hellbound, there's nothing that says the character is automatically damned to hell when they die. That said I'm unsure if more Good aligned Deities would inflict a curse like this on a character.

Thank you MerlinCross,
I felt the same way but just wanted to get other opinions. I appreciate your input, thanks again

Being cursed and wanting to do everything within your power to prevent others from receiving the same curse, or trying to overcome the curse, or trying not to be defined by the curse are all reasons fro a character to be CG aligned.

When it comes to Oracle curses there isn't necessarily rhyme or reasons as to why you become cursed, and deities aren't necessarily the only source of curses.

In fact, the reason why a character might become good or chaotic might be in spite of the curse they we're born with.

The first example I can think of is the anime Blue Exorcist. Not getting into the choas vs law side, the protagonist of the show is the son of Satan, but very clearly has chosen to be good.

Someone who is good being powered by 'evil' and how they deal with that is a very common fantasy theme. In a way, a hellbound oracle is like any tiefling or an infernal sorcerer, they are connected to evil, their powers have a sort of evil source, but their own morality is up to them.

Again, thanks for all the input. It really puts things in perspective and makes solid what I initially thought. Thank you

For what it's worth the only RAW methods I know of to "overcome" an Oracle curse are Mythic or retraining.

As for advice on actually using Hellbound on a non-LE character: Remember Oracle, unlike Cleric, can select spells opposed to their alignment. Take Infernal Healing and Screaming Flames for something that's useful for fluff and crunch.
