Need help on what to play

Advice

Grand Lodge

My friends and I got together to decide on a new campaign and everyone decided to play in a game where we are "pirates" operating on an acidic sea in an area like the underdark. It was decided by them to play a party of drow noble in a higher power game.

Other party members:

Sacred Fist Warpriest
Bladebound Magus
Cave Druid

I am having trouble trying to decide on what to play that would fit with the party. There are quite a few classes I would like to play but can't decide what I should do. My rolls were:

14
14
12
13
14
16

Help would be appreciated, party could use a cleric but I do not want them to regulate me to healbot

Maybe a bard focused on archery? Str 14 Dex 18 Con 10 Int 15 Wis 16 Cha 18 after racial adjustment. Between you, the war priest and the druid, there should be enough healing magic to go around. The group is melee heavy so your bard song would be very appreciated.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

A wizard or similar which does battlefield control, or a bard as BoF suggests look like they'd be more useful than a cleric to this group. Actually, another reason to go with the bard might be that someone in the group should have some social skills if you're planning to lead a ship full of pirates.

A bard wouldn't be bad to play, haven't played one yet. Should I go normal bard, or go with arrowsong minstrel?

More spells or better with archery? The former's probably stronger in terms of the parties' power, but it can feel better to be doing damage yourself.

The party doesn't have an Arcane Blaster or a skill monkey. Maybe play some kind of Unchained Rogue or Ninja, a Sorcerer, maybe an Arcane Trickster of some sort.

I have a build for a Ninja Sniper who uses Vanishing Trick, and maybe 3 levels in Drunken Master to replenish Ki. He would use a Wand of Scorching Ray, perhaps dipping a level in Arcanist, to make Ranged Touch Attacks vs. Flatfooted AC to lock in Sneak Attack Damage.

If you decide to go the arrowsong minstrel route you should grab a Tuned Bowstring asap and throw the Endless Ammunition enchantment on whatever bow you're using.
