Undeads and what's to do against them

Advice

Hi all,

my party will face a group of undead creatures soon. It's a special scenario in which potions, scrolls, wands or any other wondrous items wont work.

I m playing a Kitsune Sorcerer build like this https://paizo.com/threads/rzs2opcd?So-Kitsune-Sorcerer#13

and this is my spell list:

1 Sow thoughts
2 Memory laps
3 Grease
4 Snowball
5 Obscuring mist
6 Entangle

7 Oppressive Boredom
8 Minor Image
9 Hideous Laughter
10 Glitter dust
11 Mirror Image

12 Fly
13 Hold person
14 stinking could
15 Deep slumber

16 Charm Monster
17 Poison
18 Confusion

Weapons
Cross Bow
Spear

Which spell will work against some/all undead creatures?

Which strategy would you recommend besides running very fast?

Any help and advice is very much appreciated

Fly to avoid melee, grease and entangle will work on corporeal undead. Try to get some holy water, and a sling to give you ranged blunt attacks against skeletons.

4 Snowball [probably effective: Undead are not immune to cold in general, but specific creatures may be]
5 Obscuring mist [might be useful, but might hurt your team]
6 Entangle [possibly Immune if Incorporeal, requires plants, might impede allies]

7 Oppressive Boredom [IMMUNE]
8 Minor Image
9 Hideous Laughter [IMMUNE]
10 Glitter dust [technically should work]

Offhand, I'd suggest flying away very fast.

Brass Knuckles for Skeletons if you're caught in melee.

Dagger for Zombies if you're caught in melee.

Lots of Holy Water because yes.

Take another hard look at your spell list and ask yourself if you really can take on undead with literally any of those spells with the exceptions of Snowball, Fly, Grease and Entangle.

When in doubt add fire, stock up on Alchemy items, such as Acid, Alchemist Fire, and Bottled Lightning.

Does Ghost Touch work? If it does grab something with it. Or is all item based magic effects suppressed?

Taja the Barbarian's suggestion, RUN FORREST! RUN!

For those low level spells, do you have persistent spell to make them more reliable? Glitterdust is a valid use of a 4th level spell slot with persistent spell.

In the event that you get caught in melee, aid another on a friend will likely be more effective than doing your own stabbing. Try to avoid this though. Try very hard.

Unless you have bane (undead) bolts or a holy crossbow or something, pack it away and use snowball instead.

Any kind of healing spells or anything that channels positive energy is best me and my group are 20th level fighting some undead and our healer is just vaporizing them .

Yeah...your spell selection isn't good against undead (or constructs) at all. You'll need to depend on the rest of the party to do the heavy lifting. The best you can do is support them. Cast fly on anyone that wants to avoid melee if the undead don't fly. Cast fly on any melee types if the undead do fly.

If you can tangle up a group of undead with Grease, try it. Otherwise you're stuck using snow ball on high priority targets. Snowball is a great 1st level spell, but it is a first level spell. Try to reserve some of your spell power incase anything your other spells can effect shows up.

Oh, and Mirror Image as soon as you feel threatened or you have a spare round. Most undead can't ignore it.

It is weird that blunt arrows exist but blunt bolts do not.

You did not mention staves or rings in the list of things that do not work. If Staves work you can get one with some offensive power. If rings work pick up a ring of spell knowledge with an offensive spell. Magic Missile would actually be good.

You mention you have a crossbow. You also mention a Charm Monster spell, a level 4 Sorcerer spell. For Sorcerers to qualify for this spell they are 8th level. I'm guessing, based on the link provided, you are a Sorcerer 8 (Fey bloodline) focused on Enchantment spells.

You also said "soon" you'll be facing undead. How soon is "soon?" One bit of advice would be to go crazy with your Charm Monster spell on any eligible target you can find between now and the skeletons. Having a few minions not only protects/insulates you and your party from the undead foes but it also fits into your niche.

Step 2 I suppose would be to review your WBL and see if there's any chance for a shopping trip in your future prior to doing battle with the unquiet dead. If possible stock up on alchemical items as mentioned above, nets (to slow down corporeal undead) power components that can help your spells (like I think there's a couple to augment the Grease spell) and such.

Also see if you can get a magic crossbow, or a magic sling. Load up on ammo with the Ghost Touch property if you suspect incorporeal undead. Since Wondrous Items won't work you'll also need to look over the rods, staves and rings for potential protection items or weapons.

Finally I'd suggest, besides running away from the threats, using Fly on other PCs or yourself, using Ranged attacks, and directing your minions. Mirror Image to keep villains' ranged attacks on you from damaging you. If the foes can fly, using your bite attack as a last ditch effort.
