Provoking AOO's

Playing the Game

Can anyone help me out on which activities provoke AOO's in this game in the Playtest rule book? Do Spells or Powers provoke?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

If they have a Somatic or Material component they provoke, as both of those actions have the Maniplate trait. Verbal-only spells like True Strike don't provoke (As an aside using Quicken Spell to remove the Somatic action from a Verbal and Somatic spell means it won't provoke).

If I recall correctly anything with the Move or Manipulate trait provokes. I like this distinction as it lets you check your specific actions to see if they provoke rather than dropping a whole list of what does provoke under the AoO description.

Except the Step action, as it never triggers reactions (but it does have the Move trait).

So let's say I cast burning hands next to my opponent would they get the AOO always or only if they have the feat which allows them to make AOOs?

Only if they specifically have AoO. If a creature doesn't have AoO then they can't AoO no matter what you do.
