My players are going to encounter a couple of previous foes. This is really tangential to the overall story—they'll fight one of the enemies, and I want the other to have gotten a tragic comeuppance. Enemy B was a dupe of enemy A. What are good options for enemy A to have done to enemy B?
This could be as simple as her having polymorphed him, and them finding a rat or other vermin in a cage in her room, and finding enemy B's gear discarded in a trunk. Or she could have somehow transformed him into something more sad and miserable. What's a decent fate?
Key objectives—this is just a minor story element, they'll like seeing the wrapping up of a loose end but shouldn't be distracted by this plot point.
For those who want more context and know the AP, spoilers below. But the specifics of the AP aren't really important.

I understand you're not asking for spells that could be used, you just want some creative suggestions for the final effect.
My ideas
- - a ratling, with his face still being recognizable
- - a human version of inverted giant
- - fleshwarped
- - macabre work of art: his body hanging on the wall, supported by various strings and hooks, with bones removed, but still kept alive

Great ideas. Yes, it could be a spell effect, but doesn't have to be. Just things she could have done to the creature she manipulated/controlled now that she no longer needed him.

Have A hit B with Bestow Curse and Greater Bestow Curse. The guy looks exactly the same and has all the same abilities but he now takes a -12 on all attack rolls, saves, ability checks and skill checks.
Due to poor diplomacy rolls he's lost all his friends, -12 on acrobatics means he has to roll just to walk around (and occasionally fails), this means he's a bit bruised and battered. His knowledge checks failing could be role-played as losing his memory. He gets frightened easily and keeps getting sick (failed saves).
The party find him in a tavern drinking his sorrows away. He's been losing at poker and the bartender is charging him double for his drinks (he hasn't noticed yet). His horse threw a shoe and he had to walk (clumsily) for 20 miles. He implores the party to help him, but (assuming a failed diplomacy roll) accidentally insults some of them while trying to ask for help.

Mutilated and making a living as a crippled beggar.
Forced into deep, inescapable debt. This might also be compatible with my idea above.
Terrible things done to any friends/relatives. Also possibly compatible with other ideas.
Memory loss and brain damage; probably not really compatible with other ideas.

Perhaps she laughing makes him useful again?
* Transforms him into a piece of clothing - "Well he wanted to be close to me".
* Has him undergo excruciating procedures, such as mechanical arms to carry more of her things, (especially in a belittling "manservant" way) - "Come, come, ... whatever your name was".
* Transforms him into a piece of wood and has him Crafted into a Wand/Staff - "He'll only be useful as long as the transformation Spell lasts but that is more than can be said of him normally, ha, ha"; "You think that I am alone? No, someone is always with me. Can you guess?".
* Transforms him into a goldfish, (or axolotl!), then places him into an aquarium ball for her amusement - only for the P.C.s to later find the ball filled with aquatic/amphibious specimens ...
* Tricks him into making an ideal fawning/proposal position, then transforms him to stone - "This way he gets to do what he enjoys - forever -, and I get a pick me up".
* Frames him for a crime she commits or deliberately leaves him behind to take the fall - extra points if he does not believe that he has been betrayed, giving the P.C.s a chance to convince him.
* Inflicts some sort of insanity upon him, so that he cannot easily recall/communicate any of her secrets - "The poor boy, he really did lose his mind over me".
* "Where's xxxxxx? Oh, somewhere about. If we really are going to have a confrontation, at least don't be gauche about it. Let me finish my meal first, yes? I would not want to waste this delicious joint of meat." OvvO

Good ideas, all. I'd been thinking polymorphing him, but also like finding him as a statue. If I give her additional sorcerer levels she might be able to cast that.
