Weapon Damage = Magic Weapon?

Monsters and Hazards

So I noticed this with some of the monsters and this has probably been asked before.

I've seen monsters that have higher damage dice on their weapon attacks. Such as Gnoll Sargent and Stone Giant. Heck, the Harpy Entry has a 2d8 mace.

My question is what to do with these weapons after battle. Are they magic? Do they just revert down to normal ones? How do I explain that if I've done open rolls for battle?

I think monsters do there own thing and they would just be regular weapons for players

Monsters don't follow player rules, they are all based around their level, for multiple characteristics. You can fluff it any way you wish. The gnoll and harpy are well trained while the stone giant is really big!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Not terrible a fan of that.

I'm okay with some monsters being built under different rules. The strangeness of their bodies, the the planar effects on their biology, etc etc. I can kinda get behind that.

But when the Gear they very well use doesn't follow the same rules as Gear for players is when I start disliking it. Oh the Gnoll and Harpy are well trained enough to do extra damage.

But the Fighter who's entire thing is fighting and being well trained still needs magic to put himself over the hump.

Yeah okay. I'd suggest writing down rules/versions for "monster weapons" but that would end up bloating the rules/book.
