Howdy.
So i read the splash trait for bombs.
As near as I read it, it sounded like the main target takes the normal Die damage.a nd the rest take the splash damage (like 1 usually)
but does the main target also take splash?
I ask because the alchemist's Calculated Splash feat adds INT to the splash damage.. Which if the main target does not take splash damage. That could easily create situations where the main person takes less damage than the splash. Granted the liklihood of that goes away as you use higher level bombs.
But still felt and read weird to me. No matter how you throw a bomb shouldn't most of the stuff hit the main target anyway? I mean anyone in a movie smashed in the head with a beeer bottle sure is covered in the stuff, even if other folks get some on it. Same with Molotovs in movies. (i've done neither in real life tho)
CALCULATED SPLASH FEAT 4
You can calculate the angle that maximizes the damage of a bomb’s splash.
When you throw an alchemical item of 3rd level or higher with the bomb and splash
traits, you can choose for the bomb’s splash damage to deal extra damage equal to your
Intelligence modifier (minimum 0) instead of the normal amount.
adds INT to the splash damage.
Splash When a character uses a thrown weapon with the splash
trait (such as an alchemical bomb or holy water), she doesn’t
add her Strength modifier to the damage roll. A splash weapon
can deal splash damage in addition to its normal damage. If
an attack with a splash weapon fails, succeeds, or critically
succeeds, all creatures within 5 feet of the target take the
indicated amount of splash damage. On a failure (but not a
critical failure), the target of the attack also takes the splash
damage. Splash damage is not multiplied on a critical hit.

It seems to me that the target will also take splash damage as long as the attack wasn't a critical failure. The wording is iffy as it only lists failure for the target, while for adjacent foes it lists failure or better. Clearer text would just say all creatures within 5 feet, including the target, take splash damage on a failure or better.
It could be written as so:
Splash
Critical Success: Target and all creatures within 5' take splash damage
Success: Target and all creatures within 5' take splash damage
Failure: Target and all creatures within 5' take splash damage
Critical Failure: No effect
The weapon would also do its regular damage to the target on top of the above, provided it hits.
