I've never worn plate armor but if someone's gonna swing at me, I'm better off having it than not.

But they can select the feat, Fighter Dedication. By doing so the wizards can become trained in all armors and many weapons easily. This will be a good choice for wizards to improve their poor AC.

Well, if you're willing to eat 4 bulk on a caster, seems fair. Especially when most of your AC comes from levels now anyways.
