Masters of our own ship and wild adventured of the sea, we're in need of a GM to continue our conquest of the seas.
Hi there. We lost our GM with no warning near the end of book two, (and subsequently a few characters). Our current roster consists of Our Captain (Fighter), Quartermaster(Cleric of Besmara), The ship's witch (Witch...obviously), and out mistress at arms (Ifrit Swashbuckler)
Solid group with hearty RP. Feel free to take a look here
Neela
We have a solid core that has held together, and we are excited for the opportunity to continue forward! Let me introduce you to the cast of characters:
Captain Percival Asploric, our steady and mostly dignified leader and skilled fighter;
Quartermaster Rhialla "Buxom" Blackwater, our salty, lusty, beautiful pirate cleric in the image of Besmara;
Mistress of Arms Ahslei "Burnout" Mamoud, fearless flinger of flying blades whose feats include launching herself via catapult into the heart of battle;
And yours truly, Neela, walking lucky charm who likes cooking and cute things, including her lovable dodo Mr. Wiggles.
We've gotten a little bogged down fighting a giant blood-sucking plant, and are down both a GM and a couple members. But our core group of 4 remains eager to explore the seas. Won't you help us continue our voyage?

While I won't be able to GM, I'd love to throw my hat as a new player if you (and the new GM) decide to recruit a couple more to join the crew. I wasn't ever able to leave the first book with my group but I loved S&S and would be great to get back into it.
Even if not, though, I still wish you all the best of luck into finding the replacement GM. I was having a blast while playing it and the group sounds fun and cohesive.

Deevor/Darc/Eianar! Hey, good to see you again! Hope you're doing well. We wrapped up the Crucible game with our tail between our legs as I sacrificed my character to let the others run away and GM Zed did a deus ex machina (I think, he didn't admit to that) to cause the final BBEG to self-destruct.
The Reign of Winter game continues on. In fact, we literally just met Eianar again, who was helping to take care of Nadya's kids. If there was a moment to ask back in, it would be now! Check it out if you want.

Let me take a peep at things and see what is what. I recently found some time to return to the PbP world and while I was hoping to get a little more involved from a player perspective, I do a lot of GMing for PFS obviously, I might be keen on taking on a GM spot. I have a deep personal love for all things piratey :)
Couple questions for the group:
1. What is your average posting rate? Did the former GM have any specific expectations in that area? Obviously I'm hesitant to step into any group where it takes several days for some to respond, as I find that a good flowing pace is what helps keep things together. Are any of the players unable to post daily?
2. Are you opposed to adding additional players or do you want to keep the group at 4 members?
3. Mechanically speaking, how were you all handling the ship combat? Having ran S&S before I found the original system severely lacking. We tried using the alternative rules from another system but that failed as well. I recently had the inspiration to try and adapt the Starfinder ship combat system to S&S because of the way it flows, but I have yet to actually test this out or figure out how to migrate the statistics.
4. What is the main focus for the group in terms of what they enjoy? In other words, combat heavy, RP heavy, etc. What has helped keep their attention the most?

Hooray! We would love to have your help in this matter!

I am fully capable of posting daily--I check my games regularly. I will admit our pace for this game has slowed, but I would gladly start back up to daily posting again.
2. Are you opposed to adding additional players or do you want to keep the group at 4 members?
Happy to take on more characters! We had 6 characters at the peak, and I am comfortable with that number.
3. Mechanically speaking, how were you all handling the ship combat? Having ran S&S before I found the original system severely lacking. Interesting! We were not handling the ship-to-ship combat much at all. We might have fired a few ballistae, done a few Profession (sailor) checks to try and catch ships, but then we pretty much just moved into boarding ships as far as I recall. So it was pretty traditional map combat on a ship map, as opposed to ship-to-ship combat.
4. What is the main focus for the group in terms of what they enjoy? In other words, combat heavy, RP heavy, etc. What has helped keep their attention the most?
I think a mix of combat and RP is good. For me, I felt like we were getting bogged down in the present combat we had (probably in part due to the slowdown in posting rate). I would like to get Neela back into collecting magical and mundane curiosities as we travel the seas! I would add that whatever interests the GM the most is best, because if you get into it, I'll get into it too!

Personally I think a smaller group tends to make a PbP move better, since you are waiting on less people to make their regular posts. If all four are fairly active it can actually be quite speedy compared to larger groups. I can honestly adapt the encounters to suit a smaller party as needed, and if that helps make things like combat move along a little speedier then all the better. I do also have some tricks I've picked up over the years that helps PbP combat a little bit. I didn't really look into how your GM was doing it before, but I'll scan back and see if something else might have helped there.
Ship vs Ship combat becomes more of a thing later on, and it may have been that the previous GM decided to "hand wave" some of that off. I think it definitely adds a cool element to the AP and it would be a shame to avoid it all together, but its a balancing act of keeping everyone engaged while providing a good action sequence. The problem with the initial system in the AP is you had one or two people heavily involved and everyone else was sitting around waiting for it to be over. This deserves a bit of looking into...
If the other players are good with it, and everyone is good with a post or two a day, I think this would be enjoyable. I'll wait to see what some of the others say and will do a bit of research in the meantime.

Sorry for the delay in responding long day, then storms at home made the internet and power terrible.
Glad you are showing and interest in our little crew. It has been a fun game so far and I would hate to see it go.
The Ship versus ship aspect was originally what made me want to play this campaign truth be told, and I muddled through the rules in a personal just myself sort of home thing a bit and like you found sometimes the waiting part lacking... I didnt come up with a solution i like yet, too many irons in the fire so to speak though most of those issues have been mostly solved.
I can now say I can easily manage a post a day, maybe more on the day with my work schedule solidifying and with other personal issues winding down Im good to be much more active in the future.
as to party size im usually of the more the merrier mindset, but it can slow things down a bit it the action gets too complicated. I wouldnt mind enlisted another crewmember or two, but also am content with what we have.

Glad you guys have found a GM, I know I definitely can't take it.
As for Eianar it was good whilst it lasted and glad that you have kept going. Eianar was difficult to keep going, the speech patterns took at lot more time than I meant it to. He was though a very enjoyable character.
Same for Darc, he was a bit of a strange one too.
Enjoyed both games, but RL just got too much.
We may meet on the boards again.
Best wishes and Good Luck to your new GM and you.
Rhialla "Buxom" Blackwater
I think the difficulties of figuring out ship to ship helped lead to our "board ASAP" tactics. It'd be interesting to see if it can work effectively.
I'm good with maybe one more, but if you prefer to just stick with us four we have a shipful of PC's we can requisition on an as needed basis. Lol
We've got Divine, Arcane and two front liners, skill is our only real deficit, which the former GM handled with an GMPC bard.

A few more questions.
Where do you plan to take your characters? That is as you level up.
I haven't had time to look through the thread yet, so what was the fate of Scourge and Plugg? How did you deal with The Tidewater rock. I do see you're near the end of book two, so what happened to Isabella 'Inkskin' Locke?
I'm currently running a S&S campaign myself, and we've made it to book four. So while I'm pondering if I can take another campaign on top of the five I'm running. But it is one I've been through already and have a lot of the resources in place.
The other sticking point is the lack of a skill monkey, I've played S&S live and am running it now as I've said. It's not a campaign that really needs a full time Rogue I agree, but some of the later events will really hurt the party without someone for traps and locks.
You've mentioned getting a fifth, is that something you want, or are you happy with the current party and would prefer to carry on as you are, or have one of your crew take a dip into Rogue?

There had been thoughts of maybe delving into wizardry, but the way the party is built and circumstances (plus awesome loot drops) Its probably fighter all the way.
As to your other questions.. Scourge and Plugg were very sastisfyingly killed in the uprising (I wont call it a Mutiny They werent legitimate :P). We rescued the fellow being sieged by the ghouls, unfortunately I did Agree to marry the lady of the rock, but it was with clear understanding it was a marraige in paper and name only. I have my lover she can have hers Nothing being said about either.
Isabella got herself killed unwisely assaulting our boat. It was a pain in the butt battle, but.... its how we learned how crazy our swashbuckler is.
We made a ink and parchment copy of the map on her back, and uh... might have skinned it off and had it properly dried out too just in case.
I for one would gladly take on one or two more crewmates, Im a more the merrier sort of guy and well due to the nature of Pbp's if someone has to take a leave of absence its easier to plug along if someone else has to drop.

Having browsed your game play thread and thought it over I have decided I will take the wheel and keep your campaign sailing.
Here is the S&S campaign I'm running currently. Scurvy swabs.
It was my first PBP campaign and so early on it's very rough, but it did teach me a lot regarding GMing PBP games.
I keep to a post a day minimum, often more if time is flexible. Weekends are generally one or two posts though.
If there hasn't been a response in 24 hours I will bot the player and keep things moving. If you can't post for a reason let me know.
When I put in what's happening I will always ask your your responses at the end, so read the whole thing.
If you are happy for me to take you on there are a few things you can do while I get everything set up.
1. Another party member or two? What are your feelings on this. I'm sure you've noticed the gulls following the thread in the hope of a berth opening. :)
2. Having run this particular dungeon before, and finding out that dungeon crawls suck on a PBP I will speed you through it, only getting you in where it's a real encounter.
3. I noted you started with a 22 point buy, are you using Background skills?
Awaiting your response.

Irony: Deciding to try and offer to DM this one even though I do not understand the ship combat system and hope I don't botch the job cause I hate games dying, only to find out someone else has decided to take it on. Good on you, DBH. You probably saved me (and all of them) a lot of white hairs and frustration.
Hope you guys have a ton of fun!

Ship combat is best avoided anyway. The rules were pretty weak for them.
Besides people are Pirates for profit, sinking the other ship means no cargo, and no ship to keep or sell!

I glanced through the ship combat primer a fan made just to help people cope with ship combat and I... ugh. I mean when you get to the part where you board ships or try to repel a board it's interesting, but the ship combat itself is horrid (as far as I could tell, at least). I'd always wanted to try this adventure somehow and my home group hates adventure paths. So I thought "Well if I screw it up at least they get to play". Then you swooped in and I realized God was being kind to them.

Our approach to ship combat has pretty much-been board ASAP, then kill resistance and accept surrender. The boarding can get pretty creative.
Personally sticking with Cleric all the way.
I'm good with another party member.
Yes dungeon crawls can suck in PBP, so I support that approach.
Yes we are using background skills but introduced them after we’d initially started.
Bleepos Droppo
This is Chess here, and this is the character I played on my previous S&S that died. I can easily adapt him to the rules and remove the pirate archetype to regain trapfinding.
Bleepos carries around a wooden carved ship that he believes to be a shrunk cursed ship, that once the curse is lift will be a full fledged ship again - hence why he calls himself Captain Bleepos. He’s an easy to smile Goblin and great companion :)

Hallelujah! Thanks for taking this on! We would be happy to add another character--it should be noted that our former rogue has made a reappearance. I'm not sure he's ready to sign up again, but I did ask in discussion.
I absolutely believe in fast-forwarding through dungeon crawls, it takes forever to walk into a room, check it out to see that there's nothing there, then try the next one.
And yes, 22 pt buy with background skills sounds right!

A few more questions then while I'm getting everything set up.
Did you keep your list of the Wormwood crew? Who came with you to the Mans Promise. Who are your loyal crewmates, and who hates your guts?
Have you captured any other ships and manned them with your own loyalists?
Your old GM didn't really do much paperwork did he? To be fair unless it's a story point for a character I don't put much detail into crew members. But I did notice that Ashlei seduced Crimson with sex and violence, so I wondered how that ended?
I use Google drive for maps and documents, should I start a completely new thread, or take over the GM reins on your old one? First time I've ever done this.

I am NOT against further recruits if the Gm is okay with running more than five. Glad to have you back Herzag.
Lets see here.
Whom we have from the wormwood.... hmm i believe we have...
Sandara Quinn - super helpful, sort of main squeeze of our gm/bardpc
Rosie Cusswell - friendly
Conchabar shortstone - friendly
Jack Scrimshaw, Tilly Brackett, and ol' fishguts round out the other wormwood crew members whom have survived.
Crimson Cogsward survived, but the left the ship with our Ifrit Brawler Jaina.
Scourge, Plugg, Syl, Maheem, and Fipps I believe were all killed in the uprising.
Miss Ashlei is our new uh Ifrit swashbuckler and was not the one to seduce crimson with violence and sex, though im sure if she had been with us then she would have maybe? *Lawls*
We have the Thresher (isabella's ship i think) in our hands but left it to get repaired back at the rock with my uh wife. We have suplemented the crew with some of the surviving Rahadoumi, and i believe we took a short jaunt up to some tien held lands and might have taken on crew there... at least that was part of the intent i believe.
I believe you can send a message and get the thread transfered to you, or we could rfresh thread it, up to you really. I've never requested one be transferred so im not sure how the process works.
