I'm trying to make a legendary item, and it used the remains of a black dragon. I was going to use spellcasting 3x for it, but I needed help with spells. What spell selection is the best to show off this came from a black dragon, and not just any random dragon?
One of our characters has a medium black dragon as mount/Companion right now... Age can wear the dragon as vest...

A tool of corruption, this staff is carved from what appears to a long, thin finger bone of a creature of immense size (actually one of the dragon's wing bones). It seems to drip a black ichor from various pores and scratches along its surface.
The staff can be used to cast each of the following at will as spell-like abilities: acid fog, cloudkill, darkness, insect plague, plant growth. The wielder of the staff gains the benefits of constant water breathing and freedom of movement as long as it is in hand, and can use gestures of the staff as somatic components when casting spells. Finally, this fell staff counts as a +4 acidic burst club, quarterstaff, or great club, as the wielder desires.
Black dragons spit acid, swim and breathe underwater, and pollute the area. I don't know what level spells you're looking for but acid damage spells start with acid arrow, touch of the sea or water breathing might handle the next, and possibly desecrate or transmute rock to mud or one of the curse terrain spells for the last.
Give the bearer the benefits of an Elixir of Fire Breath, except the damage/relex saves are stiffer, and it's three times daily (no 1 hour limitation).
If the item is some sort of rod/mace/wand, it could do 2d6 acid damage in melee, no DR...
Legendary as in Mythic? If so, you'd get 10 spell points to use but they have to be from the same type (sorcerer/wizard most likely), I'd go with;
1/day: Cause Fear (frightful presence), Fog Cloud, Draconic Reserve (acid only), Bestow Insight (draw upon the Dragon's ancient wisdom)
3/day; caustic touch (BD's are all about that acid)

A cool idea would be to ask if you can use a modified summon monster or nature's ally to summon a Black Dragon of some age. That'll definitely show off it's from a black dragon.

In the Marvel comic books, Dr. Strange gave the Valkyrie a new sword called Dragon Fang. It was carved from the incisor of a dragon, and was _utterly_ unbreakable. As in, she used the flat of it against the Hulk once. The Hulk was pissed, grabbed it from her, bent through about 90 degrees... and it just sprang back into it's normal shape when he let go.
You could make it a Sword of Sharpness...
I like the idea about the Sword of Sharpness and I am a sucker for summons.
Is one ability worth the effect for the sword of sharpness, or should it give up two abilities for that?
You could say some part of the dragon's soul is still inside the blade? That's how I described it for the artifact dragon based weapon I made... (I specifically cited in the "Destruction" section for it that destroying the blade freed the dragons soul.)
As for the Sword of Sharpness comment, I'd say probably worth two.
