So one thing that I would like to see with the new scale of item quality, is for the range of AC bonuses for basic armors to come down, and for heavy armor to be something that the heavy armor specialist character is able to have starting at level 1. Bonus to AC shouldn't be the only feature that goes into armor selection. If weapons are getting a wide array of abilities to differentiate them, I would rather see that happen with armor too and then getting heavy armor proficiency at first level would be a useful training, rather than one that will eventually matter.

Just reposting this comment from Mark in case anyone interested in armor hadn't seen it. (Emphasis added.)

Now we're going to go shopping at the local armory emporium and really, really think our choices over. Kudos! One of our core goals was to have few or no weapons (and armor types, while we're at it) that are rendered pointless by having another weapon in the same proficiency category that is just a better weapon. While some weapons do have a fairly narrow niche, there shouldn't be any that don't have a playstyle or situation where they are a good option for their proficiency. And if any do have issues (or if there' like one or two that are just too good somehow and blocking the other options out), I bet you guys will let us know during the playtest so we can fix it!

We know that a Dex 18 Rogue and a lower Dex but more heavily armored Fighter and Paladin all have ACs of around 17 (the Fighter and Rogue have 17 exactly, the Paladin is somewhere between 15 and 17).
What that means for armor properties and the like (or armor prices) I don't know, but it seems worth mentioning.

We do know that shields can be dented if they take too much damage, and risk becoming broken if not fixed. Maybe a similar feature will exist for armor?
If you take enough damage from a hit, your armor potentially degraded and risks becoming broken, at which point you lose the AC bonus until you fix it, which leaves you more vulnerable to Crits?
Light armor allows you to dodge more nimbly but break easier, while heavy armor is more restrictive but can take multiple blows without wearing out?

It is my understanding that a shield can be used to block an attack thereby taking damage. I guess that is why it can become dented
I do not know that you can block attacks in the same way with armor though that would be a great armor trait, maybe only available for heavy armor : being so heavily armored that you can block a sword with your arm as if it was a shield

Maybe the next blog will be about armors
That is one that I am most looking forward to, as one of the 2 foundations of the game (the other being HP), once we see how armour, proficiency (expert, master, legendary), +level, and all that effects AC, we will get a much better picture.
