Reciprocal damage build

Advice

Dark Archive

I was thinking of trying to build a character that was focused on doing damage to people who damaged him. Tactics would be running at the enemy and provoking AOOs and getting hit but doing loads of damage in return. Spells like defensive shock and spell storing armor are obvious but i was wondering about other options. Right now i am thinking of going bloodrager. The ability to take hits and persevere is key so some mechanic of regenerating hit points is needed.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I'm thinking Style Feat trees. Panther Claw gives you a Free Action Attack whenever you provoke an Attack of Opportunity by moving out of a Threatened Square. Snake Fang gives you an Attack of Opportunity whenever someone attacks you and misses.

There is Broken Wing Gambit, offering a +2 attack and damage, but you and all your allies get Attacks of Opportunity whenever any of you are attacked.

Since we are talking about Attacks of Opportunity, we have to work in Paired Opportunist.

Panther and Snake style feats only work with Unarmed Strikes, and this build is likely to require a lot of Multiclassing, so that means less Unarmed Strike Damage. If you took Ascetic Style, you would be able to apply those Style Feats to a better weapon, like a Temple Sword. If you took Martial Versatility, you could apply it to any sword like a Greatsword.

There are the Goblin Feats. Roll with it: instead of taking Damage, you are sent flying off in some direction. I like Underfoot Fighting and Tanglefeet.

If you are going to be provoking lots of AoOs with Panther Style Feats, you should also take Dodge and Mobility.

If you dip into Alchemist, you might use a Strength Mutagen, so all those Bonus Attacks get an extra +2 attack and damage. You might take a Dex Mutagen and get 2 extra attacks of opportunity/round. You might take Cognatation, increasing your Wis Mod by 2, and get 2 more of those Free Action Attacks off of Panther Claw/round. The problem with this is that under the influence of the Dex Mutagen, your Wisdom drops by 2, and under the Wisdom Cognatation, your Dex drops by 2, so if you are going Panther/Snake Style, those can sort of work against each other. but that means you just go with Strength, I suppose.

The Crown of Swords summons a Spiritual Sword whenever someone hits you.

A barbarian with the come and get me rage power (min'm level 12) does this, obviously. A primalist bloodrager can pick up that power assuming you're not playing in a PFS game.

Primalist would also be compatible with the bloody-knuckled rowdy archetype which can help with a style, like the panther style Scott mentions. Multiclassing would be unhelpful to this I think - you'd want to qualify for come and get me as early as you can, not at level 20.

Combat trait
Back for More: Once you took a critical hit, gain +2 morale bonus on attack & damage for 1 round

Feats
Gray Maiden Initiate (Avenging Knight + something else): +1 damage vs. foes who damaged you last round
Draconic Heritage (Linnorm): When you are hit with a melee attack, impose a -2 penalty to attack (and other stuff) for 1 round, 1/day (more at higher level)
Grudge Fighter (requires orc / half-orc): +1 morale bonus on attack & damage vs. everyone who attacked you in this encounter
Planar Focus (requires animal focus (not necessarily hunter) & level 5): 1d4 cold damage per 2 class levels vs. those who hit you in melee

The list feels incomplete, still...

Thanks for the quick responses! It will be for PFS. Sorry to not clarify that before. I also like the idea more of inflicting damage from spells than from a melee attack. The planar focus seems perfect but can you get animal focus with a class other than hunter?

According to a search in the Archives of Nethys you have the following PFS legal options:

Druid: Feral shifter

Ranger: Wild hunter

Finally, hunter has the feral hunter archetype which trades away the animal companion, in favor of wild shape and better summoned animals.
