Hunter's second animal focus - does it have to be applied at the same time as the first?

A hunter can use her animal focus ability for a number of minutes per day equal to her class level. At 8th level, a hunter can apply a second animal focus to herself at the same time as the first. Does an 8th level hunter have to apply both animal focuses at the same time for a maximum duration of 8 minutes/day, or could that 8th level hunter first apply the tiger bonus for 8 minutes, then apply the falcon bonus for a different 8 minutes?

Animal Focus:
Animal Focus (Su)

At 1st level, a hunter can take on the aspect of an animal as a swift action. She must select one type of animal to emulate, gaining a bonus or special ability based on the type of animal emulated and her hunter level. The hunter can use this ability for a number of minutes per day equal to her level. This duration does not need to be consecutive, but must be spent in 1-minute increments. The hunter can emulate only one animal at a time.

The hunter can also apply one of these aspects to her animal companion. Unlike with the hunter herself, there is no duration on the animal aspect applied to her animal companion. An aspect applied in this way does not count against the hunter’s minutes of duration per day—it remains in effect until the hunter changes it. The companion’s aspect can be the same aspect the ranger has taken on or a different one. The hunter can select or change the animal foci on both herself and her animal companion as part of the same swift action.

If the hunter’s animal companion is dead, the hunter can apply her companion’s animal focus to herself instead of her animal companion. This is in addition to the normal one she can choose, and (as with a companion’s focus) remains in effect until the hunter changes it instead of counting against her minutes per day.

The text for Second Animal Focus actually makes this clearer, at least to me -

Spoiler:
At 8th level, whenever a hunter uses her animal focus ability, she selects two different animal aspects for herself instead of one, and can assign two aspects to her companion instead of one.

So, you can still only use Animal Focus for (level) minutes per day, but when you activate it, you choose two foci - note that the ability doesn't make this optional, or allow up to two, you HAVE to select two.

the "whenever" is pretty clear. And it's in the PRD, which is always a better place to look for specific wording of rules.

The d20pfsrd is not an official Pathfinder website and for some rules, is not allowed to use the same wording as is in the Paizo rulebooks, so you're always safer quoting the Paizo site, rather than an unofficial source

You're only getting hunters focus for level in minutes.

The amount of aspects changes the amount doesn't. (excepting of course when it dpes)

d20pfsrd is allowed the complete rules text without setting specific stuff, so it shouldnt have different rules text generally.

I concur, your minutes per day would not change, you just put on a second aspect when you activate the first. If it allowed a split pool, it would definitely state that, as that is a MAJOR difference to the ability.

Sounds like it’s unanimous - thanks, all. First time playing a hunter, and I’m thinking through what he’ll look like at higher levels.

I'm currently playing one. I find that personal spells and share spells make a great combo, as it allows me to buff my pet in some great way.
I'm going the "pet as a tank" way. I use compel hostility on him and buffed his A.C.
I also love the spell list as rangers tend to get spells quickly as you take ranger or druid what ever is lower. I took delay poison at first level!

Not to mention, the d20pfsrd is more responsive at integrating or displaying errata, especially in ways that make it clear errata has been applied.

That's absolutely one of the best reasons to consult them.

I do both, first d20pfsrd for the clarity* and then the PRD/FAQ/errata to make sure I've got the actual words used by Paizo.

*d20pfsrd is wonderful for clear writing that reduces some of the confusion because of word choices and sentence structure.
