Alchemist preview is up now, and it's *another* preview that basically does a really long-winded job of saying a whole lot of nothing.
I think the only thing I took away from it was that "Alchemist Bombs" were going away in favor of alchemical items that traditionally see very little love (alchemist's fire, thunderstones, tanglefoot bags, etc).
Everything else is pretty meaningless without additional knowledge that wasn't provided (for instance, an example of what Alchemist's Fire will look like).
I'm getting the feeling that previews are so limited because they want the Beta Rulebook release to be the *real* preview... which seems rather money-grabby to me.
I mean, how is it not? "Please spend money on this upcoming book that is guaranteed to become obsolete within a year... in which time we'll ask you to re-buy the book but with finalized rules!"
It's everything people complained about 3.5 Ed, except worse, because 3.0 was a finished product.
I feel like these previews would have been much more exciting if they started much later, when more relevant information could be spoiled. As they are, I've consistently been underwhelmed.
How do others feel? Am I way off point or am I onto something maybe?

Considering that they are offering the Playtest rules on the book release date as a FREE PDF, I can't really agree with your assessment.
The book is a collectible for your shelf, or for those people who find referring to a book easier than reading on a computer / tablet. I'm in both camps, but I'll probably use the PDF when running a session, and the book for actually reading and doing prep.

I feel it isn't money grubby at all because they are giving away the content for free. Yeah you can buy it but you don't need to spend money to participate in the playtest at all. Hell they aren't just giving away the rules, they are giving away a 12 part adventure too.
The playtest rules aren't going to be a vertical slice either. If you like the playtest rules you can play with them for a whole year for free.
EDIT: Looks like I was ninja'd

They had to announce it for the deals with the printers, also for taking the preorders... and for the preorders, they had to show some previews... and if they didn't people would all be both angry and worried the game would not be ready, cancelled, that they feared showing us because they weren't confident, etc.

Well, feel free to sum my OP up as "previews should have started later so they could tell us enough to get excited about, including actual mechanics previews and not just descriptions of mechanics previews."
;)
People have been bringing this up every so often, and it just wouldn’t work. The logistics just don’t allow for, “Suprise! PF2 next month!”
The reason they’re offering print copies is because people would print them out anyway. It’s cheaper for Paizo to print color copies than for players to get a black-and-white printout at Kinkos, so why wouldn’t they do it? They’re getting it printed in Canada to avoid the overseas shipping delay, rather than more profitable printing in China.

I think they want to keep most of the curtain closed for the big reveal. Though they gotta build interest. Finally, they are already dropping playtests at cons so folks are going to talk. Paizo couldnt hold it all back.

Oh, that figures. Just when they stop making content I'd ever want to buy, they finally make a good decision that might make preordering or buying physical copies of books online worthwhile for me. Getting things shipped to Canada costs an arm and a leg for some reason, even if it gets printed in the US.
... at least they're doing something right, I suppose.| RumpinRufus |

Cool! Do we know if they're doing the same for the first printing of the CRB? That would give them more time to incorporate playtest feedback, it would really be amazing if that were possible. Not sure if the economics allow for it though.
