So since it seems in the AP the Merosett's are not the wizardry powerhouses I'd thought them to be from the Knights of the Inner sea book, A character I considered for play would be from a house with several wizards (but be an Arcane bloodline Sorcerer himself, from the view point of so much magical potential in the family that magic came naturally attuned to him, The Naturally talented like a Mozart in social circles)
How would this alter the AP? I understand the Lotheed's seem to be important to the AP set. Just wondering if I should avoid this idea that I find fun, or steer away from it for another of my character ideas due to a GM that has a few module adventures [maybe around 4-5 of them] under their 'belt' so to speak.
Sir Nicholas Of House Lotheed
Race: Human (Taldor)
Class: Sorcerer, Bloodline: Arcane [Likely to focus in Conjuration]
Feats: Noble Scion & Noble Stipend
traits: Ease Of Faith (Faith) Rich Parents (Social) Child of Oppara (Campaign) (Drawback): Family Ties
Concept: Bored Noble waiting for his chance to go on a grand quest that tries to help everyone in the family where he can.
My other idea is,
Edwynd
Race: Human (Taldor) or a Faceless-Kin (think Eberron Changeling)
*Alt. Human Racial Abilities: Silver-Tongued & Focused Study
Class: Bard [Archetype: Sound Striker] - Wordcaster
Feats: Alertness, Skill Focus [Diplomacy]
Traits: Charming (Social), Rising Star (Campaign)
Concept: Paid Paramour of the court, and spy for the right price
Which I would find equally fun, but might also cause issues as I don't know if his personality would mesh with other characters that my group normally creates.

The Lotheeds are important, but being a member of that family is specifically allowed by the Player's guide, so why not? You would almost certainly be a black sheep of the family as a sorcerer though, which more or less works.
You could also simply be from another family. There's a ton of noble families in Taldor, perhaps your family is a rival house of arcanists that is constantly irritated that the Lotheeds are seen as THE arcane bloodline of Taldor when your family is just (almost) as good. That would set you up well with certain NPC interactions when you encounter Lotheeds.

The only issue I can see (I'm being vague to avoid spoilers) is that, if you're a black sheep for the Lotheed family, or become one because you picked the other side in the brewing civil war, you're probably not knowingly trying to pump up the family name like your first character blurb says.
But, if you've read the Order of the Stick, you can have a "black sheep" member like Miko that is utterly loyal but has no clue the level of outsider status they have within the organization.
Talk to your GM. Let them know how you'd like to play the character, and if that matches with how they intend to play the various Lotheeds. There's some background information on the Lotheeds, including the main NPC Martella Lotheed, that you would know as a family member. It might cause headaches, but I know I would let you do it because it sounds like a great RP opportunity.

One thing to also keep in mind: Many noble families have several "cadet branches" (cousins at least once or twice removed from the "direct line"). For a game, this background usually works best; the PC may not be immediate family to Martella or her half-siblings, but there is a connection that can explain how she chose the character to help her.

My wife/GM reminded me of another angle I could take with the merosett's being magical rivals of the Lotheed's, I strangely didn't think of this myself (kinda kicking myself for not doing so considering how many times in the past I'd done just that) Apparently she thinks that in the second book me being a Lotheed might be a problem as the only human in the group.
group as of now [subject to change as just waiting on this months installment before starting]
Cate
Catfolk Oracle of Intrigue (worships Calistria, Curse: Covetous)
*Alt traits: Curiosity
Feats: Extra Revelation
Revelations: Assume Form (Sp), Desire Sight (Sp)
traits: Resilient, Adopted [World traveler], Rising Star
Drawback: Hedonistic
Background: Adopted by an Taldan explorer of ruins groomed and treated almost like a daughter or member of the family, other Taldans thought of her more as a pet to the family and Cate herself and found herself enjoying the concept just fine, in fact she now as an adult moves from wealthy backers whom want such a pet and as such tries to be the best she can be, to get pretty clothes, jewelry and every creature comfort she can.
Charolette
Dhampir, Rogue (spy) [Wants to go Shadow Dancer]
traits: Reactionary, Taldan Patriot
Concept: A Dhampir that has decided to use her long lifespan to make changes to Taldor for the better.
Mudbert
Half-Orc, Fighter (two-handed)
Traits: Civilized and Athletic Champion (Perception & Climb)
Concept: Arena warrior turned Bodyguard
Did like the name Edwynd more than Nicholas so
Sir Edwynd Merrosett
Race: Human (Taldor)
Class: Sorcerer, Bloodline: Arcane [Likely to focus in Conjuration]
Feats: Noble Scion & Noble Stipend
traits: Ease Of Faith (Faith) Rich Parents (Social) Child of Oppara (Campaign) (Drawback): Headstrong
Concept: Bored Noble trying to help prove like others in his family the superior magical talents of his family over the Lotheed's as Taldor's Wizard Knights

If you want to bring out the Magic Words, sorcerers and oracles tend to make the best wordcasters, since you can put words together on the fly. Edwynd or Cate would be fun with it, if you still want to try it.
Your words have so much weight, you can even tell magic itself what to do?

Actually I really like this concept. It goes more with the Gifted due to bloodline theme I was going for. :-3 thanks for the suggestion
