Reading Crownfall... just wow... wow...

The Pathfinder Society Assistance section in Part 3 indicates the number of agents in D2 is reduced by 2 to 2. Area D2 only has 2 agents listed.

As a GM who is a bit torn between this and Hell's Rebels for the next campaign, what are the rough comparisons looking like? What is the scope? Just national or does it spread over a wider area? Does it have a clear menace? I'm coming off Reign of Winter and one of the things I like about Hell's Rebels is a clear and present villain. If there is a campaign outline in the back, what sort of spoilers does it have to offer?

Please, tempt me into another set of purchases!

I would highly recommend you play Hell's Rebels before this one. That is, you have about 6 months waiting time before we get the entire War of Crown AP, and Hell's Rebels is all ready to go and yes, those books, they are spectacular! :)

What super-group do you play with that can finish an AP volume in a month?

Huh... mine... :P

We started HR book 3 Jan 10 and we're gonna be done next Fri... :P

Reign of Winter has taken three years. It has two, maybe three sessions left.. I can only assume my next AP will take as long. The idea of Hell's Rebels taking less time for War for the Crown to wrap up publication is so fantastic that I might as well take up looking for leprechauns while I'm at it.

Hahaha! it's possible, and involves recruiting 6 players instead of 4 to account for no-shows, and ALWAYS running your game session every two weeks no matter what. Also, GM (me) aims to complete each part of the Chapter in one or two sessions maximum. My personal preference is not to let players wander aimlessly for entire sessions (under the sandbox pretense) or let them goof off more than 5 min in a row. :)

Edit: with that said, my players can't wait for WftC either, so we're starting March 16th, and will finish book 4/5/6 of Hell's Rebels in parallel (playing every Fridays, alternating HR and WftC from week to week)

I recommend we keep this thread to questions/clarifications relating to the actual book :)

On that note, anyone who has done actual Flashcards for the NPCs and wants to share them, they would be my hero.

As a CK2 player, I have to register the nitpick that Primogeniture doesn't mean what the author thinks it does. Primogeniture is actually *maintained* if Eutropia inherits, as the oldest (and in this case only) child of the current ruler is succeeding him. What the Senate is voting on is to replace *Agnatic* primogeniture (only male children count' for succession) with Cognatic primogeniture, that women inherit on an equal basis.

Which means they’re still replacing the primogeniture currently in place.

They're not changing the primogeniture part.

That's a development error. If you get Pathfinder Society assistance, then only Fair-Minded Efarni is in area D2.

Eutropia's social reforms are deliberately vague, so you can adapt them to your table.

I wasn't clear. Where in the adventure is Handout 1 used. I can find no reference to it in an NPC or room description.

It’s the letter Martella gives you, it’s listsed under Development on the left side of the page.

I read that section multiple times and never made the connection to the handout (probably because I had only skimmed the handout once). Talk about reading comprehension fail. /facepalm.

Just wanted to quickly say well done to Thurston and Crystal; that was, by far, the BEST opening to an AP I have ever read.

Oh, I see what you were asking about now. it looks like we accidentally used the magic item format in layout.

The brass chatterbox is a mundane clockwork device and should have no caster level or magic aura.

I'm still reading -- and really enjoying it -- but thoughts on allowing PCs a chance to rest? They could take time to do so in the basement, but I imagine most will try to push on through there (none of the nobles are really likely to want to linger down there but I imagine they'll accede to it if the PCs insist). After they escape from the Senate building, though, I can imagine a lot of PCs wanting to refresh resources, while the adventure feels like it's pushing them immediately on to the next locale.

A couple thoughts:
* If they befriend Lady Gloriana Morilla, have her push for a delay in their response to give her agents time to try to whittle down the numbers. (So basically the same but she incorporates some time for them to rest.)

* If not, I'm wondering whether it might be better to not let them have clues to Martella's location before they escape the Senate. Then they can get her last transmission, as suggested in the event they didn't recover the assassins' orders.

I am so glad I'm not the only one who was a bit annoyed by that. All in all, however, I'm hoping that the future books in this AP will permit me to have my world see a transition from Agnatic Primogeniture to Cognatic Gavelkind because who doesn't love the balkanization of empires?

Heh, both my fiance and I had a laugh about 'Service animals' being allowed in the Senate. Both for the reason that we both have them, and that I once bluffed allowing a Dire Lion inside in a scenario as the Druid's service animal. He was allowed under the "Kosovarans with Disabilities Act." :-)

Still reading this between calls

I wholeheartedly agree that this is an excellent adventure, and I can't wait to see if the next volumes follow suit.

(I don't know if it'll make it up to the play in The Sixfold Trial for me, but I'm hoping!)

Definitely like what Crownfall. Only complaint is that Taldogis is not explicitly a major player at the Escalations Gala. I want Taldogis to be friendly to PC's, eating food off people's plates, playing with noble kids, and "enjoying the company" of some uptight aristocrat's leg.

Taldogis: the True Hero of Taldor.

He doesn't get awakened until book 4... give it time... :P

Is anyone else doing a 'session zero' to introduce the PCs to each other before the AP starts. It feels like this chapter could use one as the group may not know each other and may be split apart for a good section of part 1.

If anyone is having that extra session, what kind of adventure are you doing? I'm looking for extra ideas.

Something from Inner Sea Taverns will occur. :)

I'm going to be running a session zero once my players get their hands on the Player's guide and give me an idea of their characters.

I know for certain that the start of the session zero is going to have a prewritten monologue that is Martella addressing the players saying that they've come well regarded, complimenting characteristics about them, giving them an understanding for her need for expediency and discretion etc etc etc. The visual will be the camera shooting over martella's shoulder, and as it repeatedly dollies over her (briefly obscuring the view) it shows a different NPC on the other side of the table (i.e. they're each getting the same briefing in the same bar but at different times).

As to the actual content, I think it'll probably be a number of tasks throughout the weeklong festival based off some of the old Rise Of The Runelords home festival stuff, but amped up to match Taldor. Probably culminate in some kind of intimate soiree that they need to trick their way into.

I've been looking through the adventure and some other Taldor sources and I'm not sure if I missed it, but is the date of the Grand Day of Exhaltation mentioned anywhere? They say it's a yearly event and most holidays in Golarion happen on specific days and I'd like to set the adventure in the correct time of year if possible.

I was thinking of either running one of the Pathfinder Society scenario that's supposed to tie into WftC, "Birthright Betrayed".

Alternatively I'd run some introductory missions for the PC's where they have to help out Lady Lotheed in the week before the events of Crownfall take off. I'd do them as solo-missions that focus on each PC's strengths, like a social encounter for the bard and a short fight for the monk, then maybe one encounter for them to solve together. Toss in one of the Senators to help set the stage.

Before my group found out it was my wife running the adventure, they where hoping I'd run it with a playful idea I'd been tinkering with starting everyone at the end level of the AP [17th level in this case] to try and pull of a 'Slayers' Anime feel of mostly RP with minor enemies and some re-written AP bosses that could prove challenging.

Worked pretty well with Giant-slayers at Anime Mid-atlantic 2 years ago
