Swashbuckler Finesse and bucklers

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Sorry if anyone has asked this question, i cant find it.

A Swashbuckler with a buckler atacking with finesse has -1 penalty for the shield?

I ask it because I'm not sure if "gains the benefit of the Weapon Finesse feat" means only the good things of the feat or all the effects under the heading "Benefit" of the feat description.

Thanks

Normally you can't take attacks with a buckler.

The penalty comes from using that hand while a buckler is strapped to that hand, like with a long spear.

Using that hand to attack with is likely a poor idea for a swashbuckler.

If you had the ability to use a buckler to bash, you're using that hand, so no penalty buy.. not good for other swashbuckler abilities as you need that hand free and thatbwoukd count against that now.

He's not asking about buckler bashing. Weapon finesse apples the ACP of a shield to any attack rolls you make with Dex to attack.

I think about a Swashbuckler with a Rapier and a buckler.

Weapon finesse feat description says that you apply armour check penalty to your atack rolls but Swashbuckler Finesse says that you "gains the benefit of the Weapon Finesse feat". That benefit word means only good things (use your dextrerity bonus to atack) or means all the weapon finesse rule (benefit heading) and apply also armour check penalty if you use a shield.

I think his question is that weapon finesse says that you applies the shields ACP to your attack rolls when using dex to attack. (an often overlooked rule) and the answer is yes, but if you get a masterwork buckler it reduces the ACP to 0 and then there's no penalty.
