Flagbearer why does it require one hand?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

I'm kind of wondering how come you require one hand to use it. Instead of having it displayed predominantly? I guess this feat is best for a Sorcerer who are least hampered by loosing one hand as they can cast spell. Oppose to a bard or paladin who are handicapped in some way, can't go THF or shield and weapon.

Well unless they have buckler, weapon cord and perform sin of dropping their flag to cast spell/lay on hands and retrieve their weapons.

edit whoops I forgot you can weapon cord your weapon and drop that instead. 4am writting darn you!

second Edit: WHy not also have magical version where the flag floats similar to ion stone.

Scarab Sages

There are a couple of solutions. The Banner of the Ancient Kings not only improves the Flagbearer bonus, but can be attached to a two-handed weapon (Spear), so that frees up yourself for that form of combat. As for Bard before that, Arcane Duelist actually works well because at 5th level they get a weapon that basically counts as a free hand for spellcasting anyways, so you can do the whole one-handed thing.

In theory, a banner can be attached to a polearm (2H weapon), but you'll get people that will argue that the feat requires you to use exactly one hand.

I think the one handed requirement is just to keep it from being too strong, it's a balance reason.

Yep, it's the same reason dex to damage requires literally holding one hand behind your back... :P

I wasn't commenting on whether or not I agree with it, simply that it's perceived (by the developers) as a balance issue.

LOL I was agreeing with you: that they balanced it with removing a hand of use like they did with the grace feats. ;)
