What are some good gestalt classes / archetypes / prestige classes?

Advice

There’s a living world campaign that I’m in that allows one normal class and two gestalt classes. For the gestalt levels, you can take up to two normal classes, including possibly a prestige class, but only a combination of 20 levels for either.

What would be some good class combinations?

One single classed side, one which can be single classed or which can multiclass once, is that right?

Assuming so, a simple one might be Black blade arcanist 20 | Inspired blade swashbuckler 6 / Eldritch knight 10 / swashbuckler +4. Plenty of magic and you could hold your own in melee.

Or if you're feeling the need to play a skill monkey - psychic searcher lore oracle | archaeologist bard would be pretty good.

Any idea what sort of character you might like?

apologies for the slight derail, but whats a gestalt class?

It's a high-powered variant where you get to take the best of two classes. See here.

one i just though of needs a little of multi classing on both ends and access to some decent firearms but gunslinger 5/sohi monk 15 gestaulting with wild rager with dervish of dawn fighter 18 will get 11 attacks on a full attack if you are hasted and burn a ki point altho each attack will be getting a -6 penalty but with a decent fire arm you will be hitting vs touch at most ranges anyway

Originally, Inwas thinking about going Elder Mythos Cultist cleric 20 / Overseer Shaman 10 / Blackfire Adept 10 as a summoning/binding specialist. The shaman’s alien summons hex would make every summon advanced, with the charisma focus of the cultist making him an excellent binder.

Paladin combines well with any Charisma-based caster. Paladin//Bard makes a great inspiring leader type. Paladin//Sorcerer can go Dragon Disciple (possibly with a dip in Scaled Fist Unchained Monk on your Paladin side) to be even stronger in melee while gaining full casting. Paladin//Psychic Sorcerer gets full casting in heavy armor, without material or somatic components, opening up the possibility of TWF or Shield use, and the Paladin side grants immunities to many of the emotional effects that would shut down your casting. Paladin//Oracle doubles down on divine casting, some mysteries let you add CHA in place of DEX to AC/Reflex or AC/CMD. Paladin//Summoner for more direct divine aid. Dip one level of Oracle on your Paladin side, and go Synthesist Summoner up the other for Holy Stark.

Magus combines well with either INT-based casters or with martial classes, depending on which direction you want to go, because it lets you combine casting with fighting and do so in the same turn. Wizard or Arcanist combined with Kensai eventually gains INT to AC and Initiative, a few more low-level spell slots for utility, Magus Arcana, and can credibly use their sword to conserve spells or as a last resort. Magus combined with Fighter or Inspired Blade Swashbuckler adds utility casting and/or nova damage to a martial class.

My favorite gestalt character has been a Ranger/Hunter. On the ranger side I took the archetype that lets you have two animal companions, granting a total of three up to level 8 could do the same with hunter if you want, I would probably do the multiple AC hunter archetype if I did it again to share teamwork feats with a second animal companion. I had three wolves, but any combination of animal companions could work the same.

My kineticist/Monk (unchained) was also a lot of fun. The blast gives some nice ranged damage making the bad guys want to close in and kinetic fists + flurry lights them up.

why not go master summoner 20/overseer shaman 10 blackfire adept 10 at that point?

I really like how Fighter//Magus and Magus//Wizard complement each other in gestalt play. They give really solid options that move the magus more towards the martial or caster side respectively while massively increasing its power in that respect. The Broad Study arcana in particular seems to have been designed specifically to support gestalt play, as there's no realistic way to qualify for this discovery with multiclassing alone.

If synergy for magic is what you like - a kitsune sorcerer gestalted with mesmerist has a big 'I win' button. Or a sorcerer | bloodrager if you want all the bloodline mutations and the odd power as well. The rage prophet PrC would probably work a lot better with gestalt too.
