Kensai Magus trying to get Fighter's Finesse

Advice

Hello,

I am building a Kensai Magus Crit machine. I took the Martial Focus feat, and I am planning on taking the Advanced Weapon Training feat to get the Fighter's Finesse feature, but I wasn't sure if that was 100% legal. Am I correct in interpretation of Martial Focus in that it grants me the ability to take the Advanced Weapon Training feat, and that in doing so, I can choose the Fighter's Finesse advanced weapon training?

Emphasis mine. You can't take Fighters Finesse or any other Advanced Weapon Training options. Martial focus only let's you count as having weapon training for Weapon Mastery Feats.

So is there another way for me to gain that feature?

You would have to gain actual weapon training from a class in order to take advanced weapon training. There's no way to skip that prerequisite.

VMC fighter, wait until lvl 11.

What are you trying to use with Weapon Finesse?

Most kensai just use ...what was that feat before Slashing Grace now that Slashing Grace doesn't work? It was specific to working with Scimitars? Flavored to be connected to Sarenrae I think?

Dancing Dervish

dervish dance

Yeah, Dervish Dance. That's it.

I think that's the only way to get a high crit range weapon that works with weapon finesse (aside from kukri). I think the only way to get dex to damage with it is agile.

There's the rapier, and the Elven Thornblade.

Dervish Dance itself grants you Dex to damage with Scimitars.

Also Spiral Rapier, Elven Leafblade, Elven Curveblade, Drow Razor, Waveblade, Estoc, and Wakizashi.

My main reason for trying to accomplish this is to use my dex as my attack stat for a katana. I know I can do it with a 1 level splash in to swashbuckler, just trying to avoid that.

Is using a d8 instead of a D6 really that important?

for some it's all about being able to say that my weapon (or class) is called X without needing to re-fluff it.

There's always the Agile weapon enchantment...

agile only works with weapons that can be finessed, since the goal is get dex to attack, aka something like weapon finesse for it, agile can't help the katana.
