So, a Tiny creature in the same space as the foe, and my character trying to flank with that foe using the creature (Familiar).

When can that character flank the foe with the Familiar? Can it be done at all?

You can't, unless you increase the reach of your familiar.

Sneak Attack (Ex): A carnivalist gains this ability starting at 2nd level. The sneak attack damage dealt is 1d6 points at 2nd level, and increases by 1d6 points every 4 carnivalist levels thereafter. A carnivalist’s familiar can also deal sneak attack damage as appropriate to foes as long as it is within 30 feet of her (though only Small and larger creatures may flank enemies, as usual).

I see a few options available:

• Make your Familiar a specialist in Stealth. Tiny and smaller Familiars have such a massive size bonus that attacking from Stealth is actually doable.
• Get a small-sized Familiar so you can Flank with it.
• Find a way to buff your Familiar with something like the Longarm spell.
• Get an Improved Familiar that can wield a tiny-sized Longspear.
• And those are just what comes to mind currently.

Maule familiar gets to grow to medium size, so it could flank with you.

Take the evolved familiar feat. Improve the reach of your familiar's attack so it threatens adjacent squares. Done.

Scarab Sages

Goat familiar. (Or Mauler)

Peacock also works.

It even gives you an initiative bonus.

Personally if I did this archtype I'd make a grappler. Then I'd choose monkey (because monkey grinder performance!)

My monkey would straight up stab some fools.

Nobody would EVER expect the monkey

The character I have is a Kitsune with a Fox familiar. With Fox Form at later levels, two foxes are gonna get up in that.

I will look into the Mauler archtype, see if I can get it for this character.

Well, I would have to retrain Pilferer to Mauler to get the flanking familiar. That would be 15 days of losing Pilferer and 15 more for Mauler for a third level character.

30 Prestige and gold cost... I believe it is not an option...

It's a familiar. It has share spells. Share spells says: "A wizard may cast spells on his familiar even if the spells do not normally affect creatures of the familiar’s type (magical beast)."

Take the Minor Magic and Major Magic talents, get Enlarge Person 2/day, and make it bigger so it can flank.

Kitsune in fox form is Tiny, right? If you are Tiny, you do not threaten, so even if your Fox buddy is made large enough to threaten, you still cannot flank with it as you both need to threaten. You will have to enter their square to attack from Fox Form. Or make yourself larger.

I'm not sure that you can make yourself larger. The feat works as Beast Shape II, and size changing magic does not work while under the effect of a Polymorph School Spell...

Quote:

Tiny, Diminutive, and Fine Creatures

Very small creatures take up less than 1 square of space. This means that more than one such creature can fit into a single square. A Tiny creature typically occupies a space only 2-1/2 feet across, so four can fit into a single square. 25 Diminutive creatures or 100 Fine creatures can fit into a single square. Creatures that take up less than 1 square of space typically have a natural reach of 0 feet, meaning they can’t reach into adjacent squares. They must enter an opponent’s square to attack in melee. This provokes an attack of opportunity from the opponent. You can attack into your own square if you need to, so you can attack such creatures normally. Since they have no natural reach, they do not threaten the squares around them. You can move past them without provoking attacks of opportunity. They also can’t flank an enemy.

Improved Familiar to Small Aether Elemental

Grab Amature Swashbuckler and buy A Blue Scarf. 1/day +1 per point of Panache, Swift action, Increase your reach by 5ft for 1 minute.

Edit: Technically your familiar could do this also, right? It gets 1 feat, and you can change that to something other than the Skill Focus (Perception) foxes come with, right? Not super familiar with how that is handled in organized play, as I am not a participant.

Is a Spell Like Ability, do those work with Share Spell? I believe not.

Since the carnivalist also can train animals, in several ways better than Druids, so why not have dancing bears, trick dogs, etc just trained to flank. Try and get a hold of a wand of Carry Companion.

I could go into Kitsune/human form at any time, so her being tiny isn't a problem. Mauler would have been perfect, but I didn't have the book at the time I created the character.

I wish that the Archtype had a way to effectually use the Familiar other than the first initial sneak attack from stealth. The Sneak Attack dice is basically halved and given to both the character and Familiar, so without a way to use it, it hampers the class and makes for a poor rogue without the parity between the two.
