From the new Elemental Masters Handbook, there's a Kineticist Form Infusion called Energize Weapon that lets you light your sword on fire (or whatever element you have). However, it doesn't allow you to use Gather Power with your hands full. Was that intentional? Am I really supposed to spend burn every turn I want to attack? At least with Kinetic Fist your hands are already free...
I also feel like this should be backwards compatible with Kinetic Knight, like how the healing stuff from Phytokinesis let you qualify for Kinetic Chirurgeon.

I definitely see your point about that first part. Maybe an oversight, maybe intentional - I didn't write it, so I'm only guessing here.
As for kinetic knight, I could easily see houseruling it as an option or alternative to kinetic blade, making them a bit more like elemental ascetics. They'd need to figure something out for all their later abilities, though, since it doesn't have all the fancy whirlwind abilities of the kinetic blade chain.

I'm late to the party, but as I am making a kineticist right now I wondered the same question. As written we already know the answer, but were all hoping it's an oversight/oops and that's specifically what I would like to FAQ. :) I mean to even not use the talent so that you can gather power again for regular blasts, you have to spend action putting the weapon away. Kind of a pigeon-holding pain. maybe give us a feat that lets us gather power with one hand?

Since it's a form infusion could you add a substance infusion to it as well? Once you have Infusion Specialzation it could be pretty cool.
I would assume you can, i think since its a "blast" now it even gets elemental overflow plus to HIT, but it clearly says no to damage. The character I am building uses a conductive bow and I was planning some decent elemental damage but the build kind of shuts down since I need all my hands just to gather power. Back to the drawing board I guess?

With a bow you probably want to full attack anyway, spending move actions to gather power might not be that attractive. If you're aiming to use standard actions to attack with the bow (or maybe a gun?) you won't need rapid shot, manyshot or clustered shots & deadly aim isn't so useful when the kinetic blast adds a lot of damage so you might be able to afford Shared Stash and a valet familiar via elemental whispers if a ratfolk, or Kick Up if you're willing to take a level in slayer or swashbuckler, or Gun Twirling if you're willing to use a gun and invest a bunch of feats.
Quick Draw alone works for only one round Dragonborn, you can't put it away as a free action and you'd need your swift action next round to draw it again.

It is a small help, but it's not like you can full attack with a bow without rapid shot, so that first round can easily be Gather Power + Quick Draw + Shoot things. Even then throwing daggers or javelins might be better off until you get that magical composite bow and have infusion specialization. At which point you can retrain Quick Draw.
Even without QD though you could use a move action to draw the bow, a move action to gather power, and full attack with Energize on the next round.

...so you might be able to afford Shared Stash and a valet familiar via elemental whispers if a ratfolk...
Shared stash is a pretty handy little trick I might be able to work with, has some steep requirements though. hmmm.
Using the bow with a regular blast isnt so bad, its the using Blue Flame composite with the 2 burn cost (3 or more if empowered etc) where it really starts to hurt without the gather power.

I don't know if you're starting at 1st level or a higher level but I built a multiclass Kineticist/Fighter to make a build using Energise Weapon. 7 levels of Kineticist then Fighter(Dragonheir Scion) for 7 levels then Finishing back off with kineticist.
Level 11 BAB is +9 so attacks +9/+4 or Rapid fire (+7/+7/+2)
With energise weapon every attack is +2d6
Dragonheir adds Arcane Strike +2 and Dragon Strike for +1d4+2 /att
Assuming a conductive weapon, with the 1st attack a 4d6+1/2CON blast auto hits.
So a composite bow full attack(without variable ability increases or other feats) would be 3x(1d8+2d6+1d4+2+STR) + 4d6+1/2CON
Level 13 BAB is 11 so attacks +11/+4/+1 or Rapid Fire (+9/+9/+2/-1)
With energise weapon every attack is +3d6
Dragonheir adds Arcane Strike +2 and Dragon Strike for +1d4+2 /att
Assuming a conductive weapon upon the 1st attack adds 4d6+1/2CON
So a composite bow full attack(without variable ability increases or other feats) would be 4x(1d8+3d6+1d4+2+STR) + 4d6+1/2CON
This is without additional infusions. With infusion specialization you don't need gather power to do this for free every round. You can also add infusions on either the attack or the conducted blast to increase effects. Fighter also adds more armor and weapon choices as well as more HP.
