They move at the same speed as everyone else: 30ft. I agree that they should be more overt with this information, if only to cut down on all the people asking about it.
There are not really any benefits to being small, save roleplaying. You use fewer resources and take up less space; such things may prove useful on a space station. I know two small creatures can fit in an escape pod that would otherwise hold only a single medium creature. There are a few other places in the book where small creatures benefit similarly. Plus, everything's a lot roomier for you.

See page 41, 3rd paragraph under Vital Statistics:
"In addition, most of the races presented here are Medium (see page 255); they have a space and reach of 5 feet and a land speed of 30 feet per round. While the ysoki are Small (see page 255), their space, reach, and land speed are those of Medium creatures."
There is no mention of any other size modifications for Small creatures.

From another point of view it is not necessary at all unless your erroneously carrying in rules concepts from Pathfinder.
Brand new players won't be confused since they will not have Pathfinder mechanics coloring their reading of the rules. Ideally, previous Pathfinder players should try to do the same.

It also has the added side effect of making the mechanic stealth drone effectively a non-combatant.

They FAQ'd this fix:
Combat, hover, and stealth drones with melee weapon arms or weapon mounts can use weapons designed for Small or Medium creatures without penalty for their size.

So, right now, only probably 95+% of the players are confused?
Lets face it, the primary target for Starfinder right now are people who are coming from D&D/Pathfinder. If you're not already familiar you'd very likely be choosing a different game (there are probably better games for whatever kind of Science Fiction/Fantasy you want for those who have no vested interest in it being D&D like).
Edit: That is NOT a slam at Starfinder or its developers. They obviously made a conscious choice that being largely compatible was a good thing.
