Nonlethal Merciful weapon

Is there any weapon enchantment or specific weapons that do nonlethal damage but also have a safeguard to stop damage before it turns lethal?

Contrary to virtually every action genre film or TV show. I really hate that trope.

and beating someone to unconsciousness is in realty very dangerous also, normally you beat them until they can no longer fight not until they pass out but alas depending on the GM they might make them fight to the death (even bandits who normally would flee if its too dangerous or surrender)
