Sand Whirlwind

I just came accross this spell I was wondering if folks had used it, and what they thought.

See the spell here

Never used it but I must say I don't understand this spell

For one, what will power has to do with not getting blinded by sand I don't know. Seems like it should be a fort save
Also don't know why it isn't on the Druid list.

Weird that it's a targeted cloud.

It is brilliant for clerics and oracles who otherwise have few resistance: no spells on their list. It is great for blinding constructs and golems and doesn't allow extra saves like glitterdust does.

Be aware that technically although the spell was published by Paizo, it was not published for the Pathfinder RPG. It may not be allowed in all games.

I'm aware. That's one of the reasons for the nethys link and not the srd link but it's good to note here.

  • "SR: No" - Good.
  • Blindness (Will Save Negates) - Good.
  • Concentration Check to speak - Not exactly compatible with Pathfinder (Concentration was a Constitution based skill in 3.0/3.5 rather than a caster level + casting stat check).
  • Increased Concentration Check DCs - I suppose it is good if you are somehow forcing concentration checks.
  • "Greater" version - How exactly is this supposed to work? Can you just walk out of the Area to negate it? Does it blind people who enter the area after it is cast?

Personally, I decided against taking these spells for my WotR oracle as I already had Burst of Radiance for my blinding needs and the 3.5 nature of the Sand Whirlwind just made me scratch my head a bit too much...
