Mirror Image utility

Advice

I'm aware mirror image is a great spell in the early game but I was wondering what level does mirror image stop being useful for a Witch? (Spell received through Patron if your wondering how I have it)

It never gets completely useless, but when you get to fight enemies with true sight, scent, etc. Or enemies that don't need to mke attack rolls, like spellcasters. Then Mirror Image becomes pretty useless. Having high skill rolls so your character knows when an enemy won't be affected by your Mirror Image is really useful.

Ahh great!

Just a note. Scent does not help with mirror image scent only let's you locate squares.

The nice thing about low level spells is they are easy to quicken. I play a very agressive sorcerer that gets very close to combat. Rolling an arcana check to know if anyone has true seeing up if not quicken mirror image done.

Whoops! My mistake!

It happens. It logically would but sometimes rules and the realy world don't mix.

It just means you have to invest in something that makes True Seeing less reliable.

The spell Non-Detection, for example.

How does Non-Detection help mirror image versus true seeing?

Dark Archive

While there are certainly counters, in many ways mirror image gets more powerful at higher levels.

Non Detection forces a (DC 15 + caster level) caster level check to use divination on the target.

If you don't pass the caster level check, you cannot see through illusions on the target of the Non Detection spell.

sweet, is that a difficult caster level check to make late game?

If they're same level opponents it's about a 25% chance to succeed, if they're higher level (like a boss) they'll do better, but not 50% unless you're fighting something way above your APL.

Many creatures have a caster level lower than their CR.

Mirror image is a very obvious spell in terms of what it does, if you are worried about someone with true seeing defeating your mirror image your should probably be more worried about someone with dispel magic ruining your buffs in general.

At very high levels Mind Blank sorts out true seeing.

Mirror Image still starts to lose out as you encounter things with many attacks. Your best defence is to always stay out of full attack range and make sure there is something between you and an enemy to negate pounce.

Spell storing armor with frigid touch or stricken heart is a good way to avoid pounce.

Grand I love this idea, how can I apply these armor enchantments to my witch, I wear Mage Armor.

Ditch the Mage Armor and buy silken ceremonial armor.

Grand Lodge

or a haramaki

Or the Spite spell.
