At 11th level, as long as the gunslinger has at least 1 grit point, she can reload a single barrel of a one-handed or two-handed firearm as a swift action once per round. If she has the Rapid Reload feat or is using an alchemical cartridge (or both), she can reload a single barrel of the weapon as a free action each round instead. Furthermore, using this deed does not provoke attacks of opportunity.
The text seems to imply the free action reload is only once per round, so you'd be limited to two shots per round if you aren't using Cartridges. The 'single barrel' restriction seems to favor this interpretation (otherwise, two free actions to reload both barrels is only a restriction if your GM is limiting your free actions).
It's a rather poorly written deed. It would be much clearer with one of the following phrasings:
- ...If she has the Rapid Reload feat or is using an alchemical cartridge (or both), she can reload a single barrel of the weapon as a free action once per round instead. - or -
- ...If she has the Rapid Reload feat or is using an alchemical cartridge (or both), she can reload as a free action instead. - or even a compete rewrite to -
- At 11th level, as long as the gunslinger has at least 1 grit point, the action needed to reload a firearm is reduced by one step. If this reduces the reload action below a 'free' action, reload is a free action that does not provoke attacks of opportunity.
