Witch's prehensile hair hex

Rules Questions

In the description it states the hair is a secondary attack, however in the rule book it says if it is your only natural attack it is considered a primary attack. So assuming I don't have a claw attack like some witch's than wouldn't the hair be a primary attack?

You get a secondary attack if you are fighting with a weapon and making additional attacks with the hair (honestly, that isn't going to happen with a witch, though I had a hexcrafter magus who...never used it that way either). If you are only attacking with the hair it is considered a primary attack. So in fact it should almost always be treated like a primary attack.
My witch often didn't carry weapons at all but the animated hair, so she had the most free limbs as possible so she could hold a rod and still use scrolls while having a free hand.

Thank you very much in that case definitely will be getting this hex and probably right at level 1. This will enable me to be respectable in the early game melee combat unlike most casters. Being able to dish out 1D3 + INT mod damage is very solid. Would the damage be just 1D3 + INT mod, or 1D3 + 1.5x INT mod?

I wouldn't take it until later just because it lasts just 1 minute per level, so that would be 1 fight per day. Waiting until levek 3 doesn't hurt. At level 3 it would last 3 minutes that you can split in 3 uses which is much better.

The damage would always be 1d3+int. You cannot wield your hair with 2 hands xD

Lol true good point, thank you very much.

Have you decided what kind of role do you want to have? If you are finally going for a Time Patron a buffer/debuffer can work fine.

My first hexes were Evil Eye and Cackle but it proved not to be the best option at RoW. I couldn't know in advance but I might have waited to take Evil Eye and taken Fortune or Misfortune instead. Really I wouldn't, as it was probably the best option on the long term (could have taken Slumber instead but it wouldn't have changed a lot), but there were some frustrating encounters at level 1.

The natural attacks section says that if a creature only has one natural attack it used with the full attack bonus and deals 1-1/2 Strength damage.

So I think the hair would deal 1.5 x Int mod after all, so long as it's your only natural attack and you're not attacking with a weapon.

That said, still better to wait until you can use it more than once a day.

Are we sure you use your int mod for the attack? The only thing that suggests that is this line, "...and can manipulate her hair as if it were a limb with a Strength score equal to her Intelligence score", which may only be talking about lifting purposes and not attacking purposes.

From the PFS Campaign Clarifications:

Quote:
When using her hair as a primary natural attack, a white-haired witch uses her Strength modifier to determine her attack bonus. She uses her Intelligence modifier instead of her strength modifier to determine her bonus to damage with this attack. Witches of races that do not normally have hair may select this archetype—this archetype supernaturally causes them to grow hair.

While this is talking about a specific archetype (that gets a melee attack with their hair without needing the hex), and not specifically the Prehensile Hair hex, it seems reasonable to apply the same rule to both

Oh, I was actually going to ask that, thanks for the advice I will make note of that certainly.
