Help me spend my last 30gp starting gold? (Druid)

Advice

I'm making a Storm Druid for Skull & Shackles. Equipment so far:
Leather armour - 10gp
Scimitar - 15gp
Sling + 10 bullets - 1sp
Backpack - 2gp
Waterproof belt pouch - 1.5gp
Compass - 10gp
Fishing kit - 5sp
Flint/steel - 1gp
Hip flask - 1gp

Any suggestions for the last 29gp, other than something to fill the hip flask with? ;)

Maybe a dagger, just in case you need a backup weapon? It's an occasionally useful tool too.

You'll want a spell component pouch.

  • Guard dog (25 gp)?
  • Mule and packsaddle? Don't forget feed.
  • Rope.
  • Crowbar
  • Bedroll?
  • Lantern and oil or a sunrod?

As a druid you can probably get away without a spell component pouch for almost all your spells, but that depends on your spells. And it is only 5 gp.

You should have a couple of waterskins. The hipflask only hold 8onces of fluid which in not even a single days’ worth. You should also have blankets and a bedroll or you will have a hard time surviving while traveling. Having some rations is also helpful for traveling. If you have an animal companion you might need some sort of food for it. You can use survival to live of the land but that does slow down travel and there may be days that you fail the roll. Also some cooking gear and mess kit would complete your basic necessities. Depending on your race you may need some sort of a light source.

Every character should have a dagger or a knife of some sort. Not as much as a weapon but as a tool. A spell component pouch will also be needed. Most druid spells have a DF instead of a material component, but some do have a material component. A whetstone to keep your scimitar and dagger sharp would also be a good idea. A rope is a useful thing to have.

Also make sure to keep back some gold so you are not completely broke at the beginning of the game. You may need to pay for food and lodging during the game. Likewise you may need to purchase something or bride someone once the game has started.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

A silver and a cold iron spiked gauntlet
Oil is absolutely fantastic and versatile
Bags of flour to are similarly great
Rope
Spell component pouch
Extra holy + mistletoe
Chalk
Marbles
Quarterstaff
Spring loaded wrist sheaths
Torches
Sack full of sacks
Parchment
Wooden Shield

It's a bit expensive, but some alchemist's fire would be really handy in case you ran across a swarm or a large number of enemies.

Grand Lodge

Work toward a getting most of what has been posted so far. Here are few other things worth getting.

Kunai counts as a crowbar and a piton. It's very useful.

Grappling hook / arrow / bolt

Small mirror to look under doors and around corners.

A folding pole if you dot have a rogue.

Bell tripwire trap.

Scroll of Remove Sickness, Air Bubble, Monkey Fish, or Endure Elements.

Scarab Sages

Smelling Salts - good for waking people up when you're our of Cure spells or don't want to actually heal them.

A hot bath (6 cp) and soap (1 cp). Nobody likes a stinky Druid.

Sovereign Court

I tend to use flasks if acid (10 gp) instead of alchemist's fire (20 gp) when on a budget or mass manufacture (when used with Akali flasks and a hybridization funnel).
I also prefer kunai over a crowbar. It can be used as a crowbar or a piton without damaging itself. Costs the same as a crowbar (2 gp) and weighs less (2 lbs compared to 5 lbs).

Hybridize Acid flasks and alkali flasks? You throwing salt water at people?

Game Mechanic-wise they are unreactive to each other.

Who needs physics (or chemistry) in a fantasy game?

1,450 chickens

Huh. Been a while since I linked Ashiel's Guide to Adventure. I miss Ashiel.

Thank you for the suggestions! Lots of options there. Will definitely get some smelling salts and the folding pole (we don't have a Rogue).

Ah, I probably should have specified I'll be on a pirate ship, so stuff like bedrolls and cookware won't be necessary. I'm also not sure whether a waterskin is. The hip flask is there to hold rum and such ;)

I love Alchemist's Fire but am not sure whether that's okay on a ship?

Chickens are 1 gp apiece (UE), and are useless in combat. Here's a better idea: Get something that is only 3 cp apiece.

1000 cats.

Chickens are 2 cp in the Core Rulebook. I assume that for 1 gp the chickens in UE are battle-trained.

lg wood shield. can upgrade leather to hide for 5 gp

I would still get them because you may go off ship. They don’t cost much but if you don’t have them you will want them. Who do you think is going to be going ashore when you find an island?

Spare minotaur.
