Non-Egyptian desert-based adventures?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

I noticed pyramids and mummies seem to center features of all the "desert" adventures I've seen. The exception is Legacy of Fire, but it seems very little in that AP actually happens in the desert except overworld travel: most of it is in buildings where the "desert" part doesn't really matter.

Are there any other desert adventures that aren't Egyptian themed? I'm even interested in hearing TPP adventures or ones from older D&D editions.

You might want to look into Sandstorm. It's published for 3.5 but you might be able to steal some things left and right. There is some Egypt based stuff in there, but I think it is mostly general desert stuff from all over the world.

2E Forgotten Realms had a few things based on Anauroch as their giant desert wasteland that I don't think was particularly 'Egypt based'... though I never played much there.

There was also a game setting for Al-qadim. This was more Arabian style adventures like Aladdin or Arabian Nights style that weren't pyramid based.

Not sure what kind of Support 3.X+ gave to these settings, but that may be a good place to start or convert... Al-qadim at least had a lot of 2E adventures and supplements to buy for it.

Dare I mention Darksun?

Fr actually has not one, not two, but THREE nomadic pseudoarabian deserts: Anauroch, Calimshan and Raurin. Add in the ones in Zakhara and it's even more.

Scarab Sages

The pfs season 0 scenario murder on the silken caravan is in the desert.

The Legacy of Fire AP takes place largely within the deserts of Katapesh, with diversions to the City of Brass and Archmage Nex' private demiplane. So it's mostly Middle Eastern and Genie themed.

Chapter 4 of Curse of the Crimson Throne is set in the Cinderlands.

The 2e Al-Qadim setting is a good one (very Arabian Nights flavored), or you can use a Mesopotamian setting. Just a couple of ideas.

Thanks. That should help me think of some ideas.

Slumbering Tsar is sort of desert-based. It's a sandy, arid wasteland due to magical destruction rather than as a consequence of climate but it plays very desert-y in terms of terrain, types of encounters, finding resources, frequency of settlements and such.

Note: it's also brutal. We're playing it with goblins and it's chewing us up and spitting us out like nothing. Just had a TPK to 16 (yes 16!!) dick (ghoul) wolves vs. our 4 man party. Lots of nasty traps and puzzles too. It's good fun but also a lesson in humility lol.
