Additional Traits feat for Combat Companions?

[In PFS,] Can I take Additional Traits feat on an Int 3+ Animal companion, on an Eidolon, or on any other Combat companion? I recall the idea of traits being that they are each supposed to be worth half a feat, so it shouldn't be an issue of balance, but it might conflict with intentions or some other source I haven't found yet.

Obviously, it would have to be a trait that the creature qualified for and made sense.

Anyway, don't need a long debate here, just looking for a Yay or nay.

Any other way of gaining traits on a companion creature?

Yay

yes, nothing in the rules stops this from being a valid choice.

Maybe, there are arguments on both sides.

I don't believe there is a definitive answer anywhere. On the yes side the feat includes no limitation on a companion taking traits. On the no side its hard to see how you get extra of something you do not have in the first place.

It also leads to some rather ludicrous outcomes like someone's pet axebeak having been raised by halflings so they can take the helpful trait.

I think adopted got modified so this wouldn't be possible?

Of all the criticisms this is the one I usually have the least problem with. People raise their animals to do strange, dumb things all the time--it sort of makes sense to me that if you adopted your pet wolf from a family of orc rangers it would have picked up some odd behaviors.

Yay, but the use of some traits might not be an option.

Also, I have a local player who rides in his animal companion and both of them have bodyguard, so everyone stands in the right position gets like +7 AC... they are still at about level 5 where this is completely ridiculous.

The character is helpful, the animal companion isn't so far.

To be blunt, if they one day make an FAQ that kills the helpful + bodyguards combo, I would be very happy with that (and 2 characters with the worse helpful trait that makes it only a +3).

Just remember that your pet needs a spiritual connection to a deity (like a paladin's mount, or a deity themed archetype) to take any faith related feats. (like the one that would cause halflings to take in enough wolves to start an orphanage)

It's like you know me.

Also keep in mind, many traits and types of traits are probably should not be allowed to be given to animal companions based on the point that feats can't be taken if they are not appropriate for an animal to have.

Traits can be reflavored however you wish, as per Mark Moreland.

"Adopted" could mean "raised by" with regards to Animal Companions.

My axebeak is also Extremely Fashionable and wears jewelry obtained from a scenario boon that gave me mundane equipment of some specific value. It makes him better at Diplomacy. Better than me, in fact. He aids people by cutely cocking his head to the side and not biting people.

I hope that's a typo..

Yep, it works. Soon I'm going to have a bear companion walking around stabilizing people with the light of Iomedae.

Unless it's a giant kangaroo or something...

Kangaroos are a valid animal companion out of B3; they're only ever size medium though...

...seems like something a gnome would do.

I'm picturing the Barded Kangaroo with the Gnome Gunslinger in the pouch, rapid firing a gatling gun and using the Kangaroo's belly to absorb the recoil....
