Enchanting Sword Canes

Rules Questions

So I was looking at sword canes recently, and a thought struck me. We have magic scabbards, such as the Scabbard of Vigor for example. Am I allowed to enchant the cane part of my sword cane with a scabbard enchantment?

Arguments for:
1. The description refers to the cane as "a wooden container that serves as both its scabbard and hiding place."
2. It would be awesome.
3. It might make a weak weapon slightly better.

Arguments against:
1. It doesn't say in the weapon description that you can.
2. Any scabbards are already specifically magic scabbards, and not canes.
3. It's silly.

So, lets have a rational discussion! Is this allowed? Should it be allowed? Did I miss an FAQ somewhere obvious? Does it actually help anything? Please leave any and all thoughts about the underpoweredness of sword canes out of this, I got enough of that debate while trying to google for an answer to this question.

My dictionary seems to think that anything you keep your sword in is a scabbard, so it doesn't just "serve as" one, it actually is one. So I see no barrier to enchanting it as such.

Dot.

As against this,

Note the slot. Even if it doesn't have to be physically attached to your belt it'd add odd questions like whether dropping the cane would allow another magic belt you were wearing to activate.

That is a good point. Hm. How can we balance it then?

You could maybe double the cost to make it a slotless item. Once you're making a custom item some of the pressure of the against arguments lose their force too. Of course it requires your GM to be on board with making a custom item, however slightly.

Yeah. That does seem a good idea. I wonder...

Would anyone here allow me to simply enchant the scabbard/cane for the normal price and then just never wear a magic belt? Is that balanced?

If your GM will let you do something slightly customized, make a cane/belt pair that makes your cane act as a <whatever> as long as you're wearing the belt. Should have the same price as the <whatever>.

As a GM I'd go for that. Unless you're using automatic bonus progression or something similar though you are going to want a magic belt eventually.

Thanks for the thoughts. I feel I've learned something.

I'd probably make you pay the extra cost for having it slotless, but would allow it otherwise.
