Prehensile Hair Hex

Advice

I'm playing a witch in a game. At 2nd level, I picked up the Prehensile Hair Hex. Given my stats and overall build, I wasn't looking for the combat aspect. Rather the coolness aspect, and ability to use it like an extra set of hands in everyday situations.

But the Hex can only be used for 1min/level. i explained to the GM what I was wanting, and he suggested using Mage Hand and "flavoring" it. Which would be great - except Mage Hand isn't on the witch list.

Can anyone suggest a way - barring the use of multiple feats - that I could work things so that I could use my hair to manipulate items with about the effectiveness of Mage Hand and a range of 10' for an extended period of time in non combat situations?

Prehensile hair is a great hex. It's not useful just for delivering touch spells but to carry rods and wands and still have a free hand to cast spells.
My witch is level 17 now and I've never regret choosing it as a hex. 1 minute per day doesn't seem too much but it was enough to me to start most fights with my hair animated so I didn't have to lose a turn.

Unseen servant is on the witch list though. It could even pretend to be using your hair if you're careful, or if your GM allows a little refluffing, which seems likely given his suggestion. It lasts an hour per level, which isn't all day yet but is probably enough to be handy. If you have or get scribe scroll it'd be easy enough to have a few unseen servant scrolls on hand if you need it at another time of day.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The other option is to ask your GM if you can just add Mage hand to your list?
They're the one who suggested it, so it doesn't sound like they'd be opposed to the idea.

The Two-World Magic trait will let you add Mage Hand to your spell list.

The Cloak of the Hedge Wizard (transmutation) grants at will Mage Hand.

Apprentice's Cheating Gloves grant at will Mage Hand.

Thanks everybody.

I ran your suggestions past the GM, he will allow me to buy a scroll of Mage Hand and then add it to the Witch List, allowing me to prep and use it for this purpose.

Question: Cantrip x CL1 x 25 = ?
Do I treat it as 1/2 for a cost of 12.5gp? Or as 1st for 25gp?

Half for 12.5 gp.

Check out the Tatterdemalion witch archetype. It adds mage hand and gives you the prehensile hair as part of the package.

Does it add Animate Thread to your spell list too? ;-D

You could just take ranks in Performance to give people the impression that your hair was animated.

Yeah I know, I know. Since it is only a couple of months old I didn't feel too bad about the necro.
