Familiars gaining feats?

Liberty's Edge

Why don't familiars gain feats as their witch/wizard gains levels but animal companions do?

Because while Animal Companions actually gain Hit Dice dependant on their master's level, Familiars doesn't (as you can see from the linked progression tables).

Basically, they weren't designed with that in mind. And while it's sometimes vague as to when you do or don't use your level for the familiar's hit dice, we know that this is one place where you don't.

I do think we could use a feat to give your familiar a feat though. I'm really surprised we didn't get one of those.

I believe that Familiar Folio has such a feat, you're essentially giving up a feat slot to give one to your familiar. It still has to meet all the pre-reqs for the feat it's going to take.

And I think there is a Witch archetype that also lets you give one or more of your feat slots to your familiar.

I don't remember and can't find this feat. Does anyone know its name?

Yeah that witch can do that, but I dont remember the name of the feat or if it is an archetype.

P18, right column, of the Familiar Folio and the following page gives 8 nfeats specific for the Familiar.

The archetype is the Beast-Bonded Witch.

Yes, but those feats don't give feats to your familiar. They just give your familiar extra abilities if they have the right archetype.
