Obsidian have announced PILLARS OF ETERNITY II. It will take place shortly after the events of the first game and be set mostly in the Deadfire Archipelago far to the south of the Eastern Reaches. Mechanically it seems there will be a big focus on multi-classing and mixing up previously-separated class abilities.

The game should be out in 2018.

Hoorah, I guess. I found the first game rather underwhelming (I actually enjoyed TYRANNY far more) and still need to get back to finishing it. My main complaint was the tiny environments and the rather dull phase-based combat which really took away from the Infinity Engine feel they were trying to achieve. The storyline was also extremely forgettable. Still, some of the characters and quests were quite decent.

The problem with the first game, I think, was the general level of blandness to the title. I was hoping for humour, for offbeat weirdness and more character, but it looks like that all got leeched out during the development process. Hopefully the second game can have a bit more character to it.

I need to finish POE, I like it but I got distracted. I'm terrible at finishing games.

I bought Pillars of Eternity because I'm a huge fan of Baldur's Gate and the game brought back memories. It's not a bad game, worth the money I spent though I found the setting a bit disappointing and I think they could have developed the main PC companions far more.

I'll probably buy PoE 2 but first I need to get Tyranny.

You're not alone with this. There are games I spent several hundreds of hours in gameplay without ever seeing the end of them. Would probably be easier to count the games I actually finished.

Doesn't matter though. This one will be mine, as I actually liked part 1 (and yes it's one of those games I haven't finished yet ^^) and I want to support those kind of games (still think that Planescape:Torment is the best game of all times).

Honestly I liked white march story better than vanilla. 2018 gives me time to wait till tyranny goes on a halfway decent sale.

I need to finish White March part II and then finish the main game.

Scarab Sages

I watched the video earlier. Eder narraration.. Odd Nua statue... What!? Eothas is back? But Magran blew his Ass up. Oh this is gonna be a better story than the leaden key biz.

Funnily enough, I actually avoided the official companions like the plague - I preferred to create original characters. XD I backed this, though, since I am interested in seeing where the story goes.

Scarab Sages

It funded in 23 hours.

One thing I hope they add is having your companions able to hit the locked responses in conversations or story clips. I mean my pc isn't going to have 14 plus in every stat and then four regional histories and three religious affiliations just to get all the story. His elf eothasian and Bird lady companions are here to chime in too.

Well, this got pushed back from April to May.

Not terribly surprising, given that two weeks ago (about a month out from the old release date of April 4), they still hadn't decided if they were sticking with the revised stats (strength, and resolve getting spell damage bonuses) or reverting to the original game's abilities (might applying to all damage bonuses, and resolve being defensive). And the boat encounter system had just appeared in the beta and still looked fairly rough.

Honestly glad took the sensible approach and went for a delay. Too many of their games have come out rushed and suffered as a result (particularly the endgame, which was true of KotoR2, Fallout NV and the original PoE)

I liked the first one (even though Tyranny was decidedly the better of the two). It took a while to get going but was quite good once it had built up some steam.

Game came out yesterday by the way.

I played it for about 2.5 hours last night. Solid improvements over POE1, and I'm particularly fond of the multi-class options. Biggest changes so far:

*Inventory has been more streamlined toward using the stash. Individual characters slots are about halved.
*No more camping supplies. But you'll have to supply your boat (So the tooltips tell me. I've not left the first island yet.).
*Priests don't get their whole spell level. I've not really been in combat since getting my priest companion (2 looters that got melee'd pretty quickly is it), so I've no idea if spell casting is still per rest or per encounter like everybody else's stuff.
*Leveling is much different, as the 4 tabs of feats have been reduced to a skill tree (or two for a multi classer). You also have active and passive skills that both get 1 point to bump each level (at a fixed +1 point, not the increasing cost as in POE1).
*Multi-classing lets you get the basic abilities of two classes, with the top tier abilities (high level stuff) locked out, and progression in each class delayed. But, Eder is totally a Swashbuckler (for me) who gets to have his fighter powers and deal sneak attack stuff too.
*Much much more dialog options for your skills, notably the passive skills. And that +1 religion rank from the priest can be stacked into some checks (group skill pools). Makes it less frustrating than, for instance in POE1 when talking to the Magran Priestess in Defiance Bay, there were like 4 dialog choices in red that Durance (in that party) could have chimed in about. Here, oh Eder can use his bulky Might to help you lift this cart up so the cultists can fix their wheel.
*Tyranny's reputation system has evolved into a big series of likes, dislikes, faction reputation, and how that interacts with your companions desires.

I would have probably stayed up way to late if I didn't have a crash-to-desktop to tell me it was bedtime. That and a few random lagish freezes where the only bugs I ran into.

I had some bugs with the left click not registering every once in a while. A pretty major bug but one that isn't going to make me not play the game.

I got the ship, and it seems like the management of that will be pretty fun, at least for me. I honestly finished PoE 1 so long ago that I forget what choices I made in that game, but it's fun to see some of the reactions to the watcher.

I should give Tyranny another try, but aspects of it really bugged me, mostly how bad my choice paralysis would get based on faction stuff. The default for PoE 2 doesn't show how what you say defines your character, so I've done a little bit better at actually roleplaying in the moment, rather than selecting answers to build better reputation.

I don't know whether the fact that I have logged 30 hours and am half a level away from 20th, but haven't yet completed act 2 is a testament to how enjoyable the south 60% of the world map is, or a testament to how much I like doing bounties and exploring all those little island dungeons (that almost always end up with a single gold quality item).

Xoti is my favorite new companion, her country girl death priestess schtick is one of the more inventive characters that I've seen. Maia's flirting with her and her flirting with Eder, with the former passing over Xoti's head and the latter slowly chipping at Eder's complicated relationship with Eothas/Gaun & Eothasians, is probably the best idle banter. Nothing, though, really tops Eder & Sagani in PoE1 "Hey Sagani, can I touch your fox?" [...] "I'm gonna touch it!"

The ship combat is pretty simple and gamey, and quickly whittles down to the same set of actions to sink the enemy ship. There really doesn't seem to be any real reason to capture enemy ships, as even if you've dropped their deck crew to 0 with grapeshot volleys, you'll still face a full deck of enemies on the tactical combat. I've not done the tactical enough to really know if it gives *more* loot than just blowing them up, but I really have no shortage of coin from all the boat sinking and slaver murder I've been doing.
