Noticula's motivations (spoilers)

Wrath of the Righteous

Liberty's Edge

So noticula seems like a cool character. It mentions that the players have a chance to redeem her but why would she want to do that? Intent is a big part of redemption and as a being of pure evil I imagine she doesn't really hold empathy for anything and only seeks to gain power. Under what circumstances would she ever consider becoming good?

My take is she'll never become good, she just wants to control her own destiny and doesn't want to be ground up by the abyss.

So, I'd have her become Chaotic Neutral. :-)

Where does it say you can redeem her?

Continuing the campaign in the last book, though it's strongly hinted at in various other places. :-)

I had Nocticula's motivations be more long-ranging and evil. In my campaign, I had her as the prime architect behind everything - her end-goal was to get in a position to Kill Baphomet and Deskarii and make Nyhyndrian crystals out of the corpses (plus steal all their assets).

She kills Baphomet once at the end of Book 4 as scripted, but he (wisely) hides out in his base during Book 5. The PCS are likely to kill him at the end of Book 5, so Nocticula uses this knowledge to essentially "short his stock" (selling the information to Pazuzu and/or Asmodeus - and making overtures to many of his highest ranking demons for alternative employment).

In Book 6, she offers up all kinds of help - hoping the PCs will kill Deskarii and then flee the wrasping rifts, giving her the opportunity to permanently kill Deskarii and take his power (since Deskarii is a much bigger prize than Baphomet).

I had a fun scene near the end of Book 6 where the PCS kill Deskarii the first time, and are then told by their deities they are free to go home and that their job is done (this was an honest contact from the good deities - Nocticula forced them to agree to this condition in return for her "help" in book 4).

My PCs chased Deskarii down and ended up in a race to kill Deskarii before Nocticula could (in his citadel) - Nocticula ended up losing, and giving the PCs a polite good bye before leaving (she still ends up winning, having sold out Deskarii to many of his enemies; just not winning as much as she hoped).

She is jus kinda bored of having to much enemies. If she goes aways other gods will let her be.

I took some creative license with Nocticula and her involvement with things but I think it works out well. Deskari's minions were originally outed by Aroden when he was still human long before the worldwound opened. Deskari held a grudge as Demon lords do. He 'hired' Nocticula to assassinate Aroden and before she finished him off made a deal with him. Aroden would be allowed to be reborn and rise in power again as an adventurer (a wizard PC in my game though he won't realize his destiny till much later in the campaign) and once he is again a Deity he would support Nocticula's desire to become a Deity as well instead of just a Demon Lord. Her helping the PC's and working against Deskari and Baphoment, trying to curry favor with the other Deities involved with the campaign supports this concept.
