So, Will There Be A Bestiary?

Will there be a Bestiary, or one at the least included in the Core Rulebook?

It seems to me that if Humans from Golarion spread out into the stars, they will be bringing at least their domesticated animals along, as well as a few "exotics" for zoos / studies. And creatures that can at least appear Human will spread out as well.

Yes, there will be a bestiary. It will lean more towards "things to be" than Pathfinder's usual focus on "things to fight".

Cool. But will it be part of the CRB? (Or at least will the CRB contain some info on some monsters and maybe a short adventure? Sorta Like Black Fang's Dungeon? Are they releasing a couple of hardcover books in addition to the CRB and APs?

Biological Index or Biotic Index.

There will not be a bestiary section in the Core Rulebook. While we originally considered it, trying to do the full game rules PLUS starship combat PLUS a bunch of setting material PLUS monsters was leading us toward a book that would need to be delivered via forklift. :P That said, we'll be doing a monster book shortly after the release of the core rulebook, and I'm super excited about some some of the ways it'll diverge from the Pathfinder bestiary format!

Bestiary 4 and 5 have a couple of fitting entries though, I'm thinking greys, outer dragons, kasatha, great old ones and associated creatures for example.

Whoa, tap the brakes there Sutter, cause that's actually huge news. Are you saying another hardcover or a PC or PS soft book? Cause last time I checked you guys were holding to the "One Core and one initial AP".

Actually I would be okay if Bestiaries were at least partially shared by the two settings.

Can you give us a hint of title? I am hoping something that deviates from the Bestiary format, like "Field Guide" or something

Oh. Um. I thought we had already admitted that on a panel? *looks up as Paizo Announcement Agents descend on ropes through the ceiling*

Seriously, though, we know people need more monsters to run the game than just what we can give in the first few AP volumes. So while we expect a lot of folks to pull monsters from Pathfinder, we also want to get more Starfinder critters out there as quickly as possible.

We knew there was a bestiary.

We even have speculation (from the designers) about having many more two-page spreads to allow for a full write up of the species and the rules needed for players to play as them.

So, what I'm hearing is: there technically will be more than just the hardcover rulebooks? (Looks at James the Creative Director with the hint of questioning in my voice.)

You say that like it's a bad thing.

For what it's worth, I have a shelf rated "Frog God", but I can totally understand where Paizo's coming from on this. XD

Yes, absolutely. The intention is simply to have far *fewer* books than Pathfinder. There definitely have to be a few supplements beyond just the Core Rulebook and the AP, though! Half the point of doing a science fantasy game is to get to make big books full of aliens. :)

Fewer is better, my book shelf may explode when I get the Villain Codex.

But seriously, I like the idea of there being a Bestiary for Pathfinder and such and then for Starfinder having a Bestiary/Advanced Race Guide that combines the concept of monsters and playable races into a single series since the whole concept behind science fantasy is having a bunch of wild aliens on your crew. High fantasy is notoriously limited in the playable races merely by the boundaries of it's genre but Space Operas operate within universes of diversity, like in the Cantina scene in Star Wars where there were only like five humans in the whole place

The other half would be a enormous book full of spaceships!

Books that cover mecha, robots and other cool tech are also other valid points.

Maybe add all those points up and let them form into a large book of equipment and tech?

Can I preorder the Starfinder Fleet Manifest now?

I am very curious about how this one will differ from the current bestiary format.
